How to Save Money at Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospitals

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to bring my sister’s cat, Zoey, in for an emergency yesterday morning. Unfortunately we had to let her go, but the entire staff was so kind and gentle the entire time. Even the front desk staff (who I know have a difficult job collecting payment when families are scared and upset) were compassionate. We had 12 years with our Zoey - I know she looked bad when she came in, but she was such a beautiful cat before she got sick. Thank you for your kindness during her end of life transition.

Dr. Myers and cardiology team has always gone above and beyond to help me with my dog, Banjo. He ended up having open heart surgery in Japan and has done so well. I have had numerous great experiences not only with cardiology, but also the emergency department. I always tell friends and family to bring their pets to this location and we haven’t been disappointed yet! The front desk staff is also absolutely great. Thank you all for being so awesome all the time!!

From the front desk to the techs and doctors they are hands down very professional and accommodating. We have a trucking business and I am currently over the road in my rig with my dog. They took our info over the phone to expedite the check in process. Helped guiding me in where I can park my truck and trailer. Took very very good care of my dog Mimi and under 24hs later I already see her feeling better, eating better and just over all almost back to who normal self. I don’t think people realize how relieving it is to find a place that is reasonably priced and actually even recommend to buy meds elsewhere to save you money. Our bill after said and done was a little under $1k which I know for a fact from past experiences that where we are from up north it would of been easily double or triple the price with not the same quality of care. Thank you so much to TVRH’s team.

Better late than never on posting this! We were referred here by our vet in 2014 when our precious Russian Blue cat threw a blood clot and was dragging his back legs. The folks here are phenomenal, personable, professional & proficient. They were honest about our cats recovery....it looked very grim...the cardiologist explained that. He was suffering greatly and the percentage rate for recovery for him was very low. We prayed about it and had instant peace to put him down. It was so hard, BUT GOD gave us assurance we had done the right thing. Thank you all. "The righteous man regardeth the life of his beast" Prov. 12:10a....Blessings to all of you here for your kindness to our family! You are the best!

We had to bring in our small dog because she got into some meds she shouldn't have, and she got great care. After they took our dog back, we waited for 4.5 hours only because there was another case that was more urgent. After our wait, the doctor came in and talked to us about our dogs condition and answered all of our questions.Everyone from the people at the desk to the doctor were super helpful and kind. Thank you! Bring a jacket/blanket with you when you go in! It is freezing.
