How to Save Money at Triangle Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Pooch and Dr Miller have been seeing our nearly 10yo lab/pit mix, Gus for about a year. He has had several issues. They have taken such good care of him. They rec’d a hypoallergenic diet for him and he is a new dog! Lots of energy, clear skin, and no more ear infections! Thanks!!!

Had a bit of an emergency and called this place right when they opened. They were able to get us in right away. The staff was very kind and compassionate. While this wasn’t our primary care vet, it will be from here on out.

Our kitty, Twiggy, became obstructed from bladder stones on Thursday, so we rushed him to the emergency vet where they placed a urinary catheter and got him stabilized, but unfortunately, the catheter also became blocked with a stone. The emergency vet's surgeon had an emergency (ah!) so we needed to quickly look at other options. I immediately called triangle vet, Twiggy's normal vet, Friday morning and explained the situation, and luckily Dr. Miller was able to get him in for a cystotomy on Friday. We are SO appreciative for Dr. Miller and Lorena for all of their help in an emergency, and even with everything, Dr. Miller could tell how stressed we were and took the time to explain the procedure and answered all of our questions beforehand, and again when he called us after Twiggy's successful and smooth surgery. Unfortunately, Twiggy re-obstructed (likely from being so inflamed from the original obstruction and due to inflammatory cells the bladder was producing as it healed, not due to any missed stones) and we had to take him back to the emergency vet to place a urinary catheter again over the weekend. The emergency vet has mentioned several times how great the incision looks and how well Twiggy is healing from his surgery. We are so appreciative and thankful that Twiggy continues to receive such great care here! He was scheduled to have a teeth cleaning, but we canceled the appointment due to everything he's going through, and Lorena was so kind and said that they will still honor the 10% off for dental month when we decide to do his cleaning. I am so appreciative for the compassion that they showed us during a very stressful time. This was the first time Twiggy has seen Dr. Miller (he usually sees Dr. Watson for his shots and checkups -- she's also amazing!) but both doctors Watson and Miller have given Twiggy excellent care. I cannot recommend Triangle Vet enough!

The veterinarian I worked with was warm and friendly, and the prices are reasonable. The reason for my 2-star review is that I have experienced multiple administrative issues with this clinic. I tried to order heartworm medication from PetSmart in November, and PetSmart tried to contact this clinic 7 times. They confirmed the fax and phone number multiple times and provided me with a record of each attempt. Many times, they reported their phone calls were unanswered, and on one occasion, someone reportedly hung up on them. I ended up having to ask my old veterinarian to fill the prescription. I sent Triangle Veterinary Hospital outside records in an email on 11/09/2022, and they called me today (03/07/2023) to schedule vaccinations because they didn't have the records that I sent to them in November. I once scheduled boarding with them 2 weeks in advance, and then I got a call 4 days later that they would have to cancel my reservation because my dog did not have the two-shot vaccination series for canine flu (which they stated takes 1 week between each shot and then 1 week for immunity to develop). I had to scramble to find different boarding, and when I got the canine flu vaccination for my dog later at another clinic, they didn't mention anything about a second dose or a latency period for immunity.

When my dog passed away and we brought him in for cremation, we requested his harness be returned to us. His harness smells absolutely terrible, like they left him in it for the week prior to his cremation, and there was a small splatter of blood on the bag the harness was in. As if the trauma of our beloved dog dying wasn't enough. They quoted me $600-1100 for a dental cleaning plus extractions but it ended up costing us close to 1400. They are constantly sending me emails saying my dog is due for boosters when I literally just brought him in for them, they obviously didn't update his chart. They also labeled him a bite risk because he likes to lick, and told an adoption agency (looking to adopt another dog) he was not neutered, but he has been since he was a puppy.
