How to Save Money at Southpoint Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am beyond grateful for the purr-fect care provided by Dr. Elise, Dr. Crenshaw, and the entire team at Southpoint Animal Hospital. They have taken such paws-itively wonderful care of my two Burmese cats, Miles (15 years) and Winston (5 months), and I couldn’t ask for a better veterinary team. From the moment we walk in, we feel like part of the fur-mily. Dr. Elise and Dr. Crenshaw are not only claw-some in their knowledge but also deeply compassionate. They take the time to explain everything and ensure that both my cats and I are comfortable and informed. Their dedication and genuine love for animals is truly ameow-zing. The entire staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to lend a paw. Whether it’s a routine check-up or a more urgent matter, I know my cats are in the best paws possible. I highly recommend Southpoint Animal Hospital to anyone looking for exceptional and heartfelt veterinary care. Thank you all for the outstanding service and for always going above and beyond for Miles and Winston!

New to the area, from CT, and starting with a new vet, I chose Southpoint Animal Hospital for my elderly Australian Shepherd Mix. The staff throughout the facility was very efficient and kind. Dr Garcia was very thorough in her examination and explained everything in a way I could understand. We came up with a good plan for what my geriatric dog needs to keep him healthy and comfortable. The bill was definitely reasonable. I’m so happy to have found my new vet in NC!

Dr. Elise is the best. She is great with both of my cat sons. It has been hard to find a vet that I can trust with their care after our last vet gave one of my cats a vaccine 2 years before he was due for one but I finally found one. She is great with handling them and I appreciate that the staff does the bloodwork, vaccines etc in front of me in the exam room rather than in the back so I can trust they are handling them with care. The staff is very friendly and everyone we have encountered has been great including the front desk staff. I appreciate that Dr. Elise only does what is necessary for my cat's care and she takes time in explaining the labs and any outcome of the same so I can do what is necessary to take care of my cats long term. All in all, I highly recommend this vet office and am very glad I found this place. See the photo of my boy after getting poked and prodded. This is the most chill he's ever been after a wellness exam. This photo speaks for itself. :)

Since I’ve had my cat (around 8 years), we have lived in a few different locations and been patients in 3 different Vet clinics in that time. Southpoint Animal Hospital is by far my favorite. They have taken such good care of my little guy, always calling to check in on him when we’ve had out-of-the-ordinary situations. Each doctor and tech I’ve had has been so kind and thorough. Highly recommend!

SPAH treats us like family! We have been using their services for 15 years or so, and have always been treated with respect and the utmost care. We know our pups are in good hands. SPAH has seen as through loss and new beginnings, and we are so grateful for all they do for us and our fur babies!
