How to Save Money at Eno Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I really like this Animal Hospital. I bring both my cats here. My cats don’t enjoy being in their carriers at all but the vets and assistants are really great with cats. They are also very brave as you never know how cats can be in unfamiliar places. They always have treats available for my cats as well. I’ve had to come with my cat a few times because he got into a fight with another cat. The vet helped me keep the bill as low as she could as this wasn’t his first time there for a cat fight. The inside is really nice, modern and spacious. There is plenty of room to sit and they have really nice murals on the wall. This is our regular vet so we will be back for all our cats needs.

The greatest measure and test of character oftern occurs during our most challenging times. I am grateful for Eno Animal Hospital and their staff for the outstanding care, attention to detail and emotional support they offer me, my sister Sonya and of course Marci. I offer a special thanks to Dr Smith who was professional yet sensitive to everyone's needs and feelings. I also want to thank Charles who was the one who often treated Marci on her visits. He always was upbeat, positive and most important of all, put Marci at ease on her visits. Thank you so much! Mark Swanson. PS Marci loved to go on the Pontoon and Always loved to be with her 2 buddies Matt (Lab) & little Houston.

Scheduled an appointment for a second opinion from results of another hospital on my 12 year old dog, arrived on Scheduled just to be told the tech that was to do the MRI wasn't there that day, and that he didn't need a CBC because the vet that i was there to get a second opinion on had already taken it, but offered that i could leave him there all day and they would look him over! No Thanks! Can't believe the positive ratings on this hospital, something is definitely a miss here

For regular a visit to the vet, they want you to drop your dog off in the morning to be kept in a kennel and pick them up in the evening. I have a pound puppy who isn't fond of the crate. I did this once and at 5pm when I was supposed to pick her up, they hadn't even seen her yet. One day around 3pm, my dog ripped her dew claw off. The wick was exposed. Needed attention, not a big emergency. They couldn't fit us in. Told us to go to the urgent care in Chapel Hill. It would have taken about 20 minutes to see my dog. Soonest they could see her would be the following Tuesday and I'd have to drop her off in the morning. To be kept in a crate until they could see her. If you want somewhere inexpensive and understaffed for the amount of patients they have; then this is the place! They only want to provide the bare minimum. So much for caring for your patients, you can't spare 20 minutes for a small emergency. Really disappointed.
