How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital Durham
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google

I can’t give enough compliments and thanks, in this small space, for the compassion and care my dog received. I’ve never needed the care of an ER vet, but my Yorkie got sick so fast, while we were visiting here in NC. I’m so glad I found BluePearl. The vets and techs took the time to really explain what was going on and when we had to come back two days later, they helped me understand that I was making the right choice to let my dog go and I wasn’t just giving up on him. The room they set us up in was comfortable and private, they brought him to me wrapped up in a soft fleece blanket and gave me all the time I needed to say goodbye. They gently explained the process and gave me loving support. I know my dog received the best care possible. I hope anyone reading this review will know their pets will be loved and taken care of if you decide to take them to Blue Pearl. Thank you everyone at Blue Pearl.

I cannot say enough good things about the kindness and compassion of the incredible staff at both the Durham and Cary locations. When my puppy needed emergency surgery to remove an obstruction the Cary team took amazing care of him (and me), kept me regularly updated, and even sent pictures to help lessen my worry. We’re all so grateful for everyone here and the care they provided during an extremely stressful time.

I had a great experience with BluePearl. I had to take my cat for an emergency appointment, and the staff were so helpful and compassionate. The vet explained my cat's results to me clearly and without any condescension, and all the staff were so kind. Taking your pet to the emergency vet is a scary experience, but everyone there helped to make me feel like my cat was in great hands. Thank you all for your kindness and taking such good care of my pet.

This emergency visit was a complete disaster. First, the lack of triage was a major red flag. The secretary just glanced at my dog and dismissed her as 'stable' without even laying a finger on her. It felt like they couldn't care less. The vet himself was incompetent. She didn't even do a proper exam, just checked the vitals... and when I asked about medication for pain, she seemed she didn't even think about it. The whole experience was incredibly stressful and left me feeling completely helpless. On top of everything else, the bill was ridiculously high. I felt like I was being charged for nothing. I would never recommend this place to anyone. To make matters worse, we went to another emergency vet in Cary afterward, and within 5 minutes, the vet there diagnosed our dog with a probable Atlantoaxial luxation after just watching the dog moving. They immediately referred us to NC State Veterinary School for further treatment and didn't even charge us for their services. This experience highlighted just how incompetent and unprofessional the first emergency vet was.

Bluepearl, went far beyond helping me with my fur baby, who I bought in very sick. They took care of my dog and assisted me by calling my dog’s veterinarian and getting our information , prior to our arrival, I was having problems getting him up and moving as he was experiencing heat exhaustion and mobility issues. They texted and called me to see where we were in the process. They also assisted us financially when I got there as I was also experiencing hardship with my car blown engine gasket and moving cost total disaster. They did not slight the care provided to my dog because of this. I am in tears of joy knowing professionals do care about the profession and are willing to give you their professionally best, no matter your circumstances. God Bless them all, continue to do your best and advocate for the veterinarian cause. I am getting on all my social media and give props and shout for everyone to listen about Bluepearl Southpoint Durham, NC, a winning team!!! This is where you can take your pets and be assured they will receive the best care and with great customer service. ❤️🥰. In these days a rare gem!
