How to Save Money at Main Street Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
What a great experience! The whole team was welcoming, compassionate, and professional. The person who helped me book my appointment, every vet tech who cared for my dog, and Dr. Goodwin were all awesome. They helped to get us in at the last minute, which made me feel like they really cared about my dog’s health. The vet tech and Dr. Goodwin were both so patient, ethical, and honest as they explained every detail of our options for care, the suggested medications, the reasons for everything suggested, and cost. They recognized that I’d likely have a budget and never made me feel bad about that. As many reviews have said, we’ve had some negative experiences with other vets who preyed on us while upset about our pet. Our last visit ended with surprise bill that felt like a gut punch, which is what led us here. I’m thrilled to join Main Street for our dog’s care. I highly recommend!

True 5-star service. Extremely quick, efficient, caring, and honest. Everything was done in the room in front of me, which I loved and appreciated. They treated my dog like their own and delivered compassionate care. They were upfront about future visits and tests/vaccines to be done. I was in and out in 20 minutes with thorough care! Highly recommend Main Street Vet! I don’t normally share negative experiences from other places. But the prior vet I was using took advantage financially, they took 1-2 hours time wise to complete every visit, and they weren’t honest or upfront by having surprises with hidden tests and charges not discussed previously. I am truly excited to be part of Main Street for my current and future treatment! Thank you everyone who tended to us for our visit.

I can’t say enough amazing things about this place. We moved to huntersville in 2020 and searched for the right place to take our (at the time) 10 year old lab who was like a child to us and had lots of health issues. From day 1, Dr. Wasserman was great to work with. He was always patient, and always explained things in great detail. He made us feel like we were his only patients that day. We unfortunately lost our pup this week and Dr. Wasserman was so kind and gracious throughout this difficult process. The whole office is great and I hope to be back one day.

Every one was super nice . They let me wait outside with my dogs until the lobby was empty and called when they were ready for my dogs. It made the process of shots so much easier. My pups are super reactive with other animals so this helped to keep their energy down

5 stars to the super amazing team! After rescuing a tiny feral kitten, they were the only practice we were able to find who were available to see her for an last minute wellness check up last Friday afternoon. They were also able to fit us in the following Monday morning for an urgent sick visit. Our baby fur baby has been treated by both Dr. Atkins and Dr. Wasserman, who are both just absolutely phenomenal, and were so knowledgeable, patient, friendly, compassionate, caring, and personable. Thank you as well to our vet techs Kate and Kristen who also helped to comfort and care for our trembling, scared and sick little meowy. The front office staff were also all so very helpful, considerate and super awesome as well! I highly recommend them, and even though we do not live all that close to the area of the practice, we feel it is well worth traveling the distance as we continue care there for our new kitten. We also have an older kitty as whose future vet care we will also be entrusting to this amazing team of caring and dedicated professionals. We are so very appreciative for their outstanding vet care, and grateful for them taking such wonderful care of our newest member of our family! We are soooooo very thankful to have found Main Street Veterinary.
