How to Save Money at Poplar Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I don’t have enough kind words to express how grateful I am for the staff at Poplar Animal Hospital. The environment is so warm and caring, I know my dogs are in the best place. The majority of the staff know my name but more importantly my dogs names and frequently ask how they are doing. I would like to give a huge shout out to DR STROUD!!! She is one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met and she knows what she’s doing so I don’t have to worry about a thing. My dogs have been involved in a few accidents and every time she has a solution the FIRST visit and they bounce back better than ever. Dr. Amot performed hip surgery on my kitten and she recovered beautifully, thank you Dr. Amot. Kassidy a veterinary assistant was kind enough to do my dogs nails who is notoriously bad for them, thank you Kassidy! To all of the staff at the front desk, thank you thank you thank you! Your hard work does not go unrecognized and I can’t imagine going anywhere else.

Excellent practice. The staff are incredibly friendly, and Dr. justice is so knowledgeable and kind. She really takes her time to discuss your animals health and explains things in a way that you can truly understand. She goes out of her way to communicate with you personally.

Smiling faces all around! I appreciated the nonjudgmental conversations concerning Buddy’s injury. The clinic was busy but each person I interacted with had time to discuss the issues with the injury and the care needed during recovery. A wonderful veterinary clinic! UPDATE: A second visit was made when Buddy developed diarrhea (pew!) for about a week. I really appreciated the conservative approach to the treatment Dr. Justis prescribed. She suggested changing to a more digestible food with the addition of probiotics as well as an antibiotic and parasite treatment. If he is not better in a week or so, other options would be considered. Dr. Justis spent plenty of time with me to make sure I understood her understanding of Buddy’s condition. Again, smiling, helpful and pleasant staff all around. They have earned my trust.

We love poplar animal hospital! They are so personable and have taken great care of our pets! I have been taking my pets here for over 9 years now. In that time, I’ve had 3 puppies, 4 surgeries (1spay, 1 neuter and 2 were because one of my dogs ate a long fabric toy… twice 😅🤦🏻♀️), and had to put down my childhood cat I moved to concord with. Throughout all of that, poplar animal hospital and their vets and staff have always gone above and beyond to treat my pets like family. I had to put down my 19 year old cat in 2020 during the pandemic and they allowed me to go into a room inside to be with her as she passed. Dr. Justis was so patient and kind during the whole process and every appointment before that. While I was one week away from my due date with my son, my dog ate a toy and needed surgery. Dr. Amat did the surgery and he went above and beyond to take care of her and update me often so I could just focus on having my son. I have also boarded my dogs with them and it’s always been a positive experience! In summary, I highly recommend taking your pet to Poplar Animal Hospital!

I had the absolute best experience at Poplar Animal Hospital. I brought my cat in after she had an accident in which she was injured and they were able to work me in very quickly. The vet tech was so reassuring and kind, she put me at ease when I was obviously very worried about my cat. The vet was thorough and gave me great direction on how to care for my cat in the next few days following the accident. I spoke so highly of this facility that my parents intend to switch their dogs over to Poplar Animal Hospital.
