How to Save Money at Thrive Pet Healthcare

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been taking my dog specifically to the Mallard Creek location since we was a puppy and they always deliver. Their membership is worth it especially for that first year of needs. I had them recently do her spay and I was a nervous wreck about it! They made me feel so at ease and they did an amazing job. You can barely even see the scar anymore and it’s only been a few months. The staff is amazing and always so warm and welcoming. They know my dog and she knows them. She’s a chihuahua so she is obviously extremely anxious about everything, but they always treat her with the best care and concern. Dr. G always has great suggestions to keep her healthy as possible. I love Thrive and will recommend anyone in the Charlotte area to take their fur babies there!

Dr. G and staff are awesome. I can not say enough positive things. They have treated all five of our dogs with the most respect and love. I really like that they get down on the dogs level to build a relationship with them. It definitely lessons the stress of going to the vet. 5 stars all the way.

I love this clinic. I still drive 45 minutes here even though I’ve moved outside of Charlotte. Flexible appointments, upfront pricing, and the Thrive Plus Plan make this the best option for myself and my three dogs! They always get us in a room quickly and we are seen and out the door in a timely fashion. Not to mention everyone always seems genuinely happy to see my dogs. It’s a great place and I would recommend them to anyone!

All of the staff at this office are extremely friendly. The vet is super knowledgeable and very helpful. In my experience it has been very easy to get an appointment as soon as necessary. The only reason I do not give five stars is because, due to being short staffed, sometimes the office is closed without any notice. I understand that this is not the fault of the staff, but it is sometimes and inconvenient. Otherwise, my experiences here have been incredible.

Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience here. Our dog was treating fine but we definitely just wasted money. We brought our dog in for limping and they diagnosed her with allergies..? Our dog was nervous so they took her to the back and “did an exam” on her and she was back shortly after. They stated they extended it and saw nothing but I definitely knew this wasn’t right but my husband was the one who brought her so he had no idea and just got the meds and left. We ended up bringing her to another vet where they did a full exam in the room and she was diagnosed with a torn ligament in her knee and needs surgery. I’m not sure how you mix the two of those up…
