How to Save Money at Steele Creek Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’re doing physical fitness/rehab at Steele Creek with my 14 year old Border Collie. It’s been a top notch experience! Sam is doing underwater treadmill sessions. Pictures included. Y’all, if your dog is struggling with range of motion or mobility, ask about this option with your vet, if at all possible to swing it in terms of budget! The consultation was relaxed and thorough, and the rehab techs are very attentive to my dog’s pain levels while also striving to make the experience as fun as possible. You can leave your dog and run errands if you like (they have a dedicated kennel area right in the rehab room). Or you can stay in the dedicated waiting area (there’s water and a restroom). Or you can watch the rehab session. My dog is a mama’s boy and needed me right there the first few sessions. The techs were very chill with this. And they all have impressive behavioral know-how to make Sam comfy, and ensure he was enjoying himself and also making progress at the pace that was best for him. After just three sessions, I was able to leave him partway through. And now I can just hand off the leash and read while Sam enjoys his “peanut butter time”! We’re working on arthritis related weakness and instability in Sam’s hips and he’s improving so much! We started out with Sam rapidly becoming unable to get up from resting, falling when walking even on flat surfaces, and being able to tolerate maybe ten minutes of neighborhood walks. The underwater treadmill sessions help by supporting his weight and removing the fear of falling, while retraining his brain to reach and stretch those muscles. That rebuilds and strengthens the muscles he needs to balance and support the arthritic joints. Also, it’s a fun game for Sam as he has to work to stay at the front of the tank to reach the peanut butter on the glass (see pictures)! They have non-peanut treats to accommodate allergies (both canine and human) btw. After a month of twice a week sessions, Sam’s back to being able to play fetch and “herd” his beloved indestructible egg toy. Our goal is getting back to hikes and swimming and maybe even very short herding sessions. I’ll add an update if we get there! The vet clinic itself is nicely laid out. They have a fenced offleash area where you can let your dog sniff and relax before their appointment. Every single employee from front desk, to kennel attendant, to vet techs and doctors, are both knowledgeable and very welcoming. I had a lot of experience with Steele Creek previously, as I worked at a dog day care uptown for three years and had to call and get immunization verifications. I’m really really terrible on the phone, so when I say that they are EXTREMELY helpful and pleasant — that’s something that means a LOT to me. I never hesitate to call and I know that the front desk will help out as best as possible in any situation. Access is the only slight downside. It’s SUPER WORTH IT though, don’t be discouraged by this! It’s off the northbound side of South Tryon. If you approach from downtown, Google will tell you to make a U-turn slightly past the clinic. South Tryon is pretty busy, and you’ll be waiting a loooooong time to make this turn. However, you can make a right turn on John Price, follow it back to South Tryon, and turn left at the light. I adore my current vet clinic (Totalbond Forestbrook in Gastonia, see review there). But if I lived closer, I’d definitely pick Steele Creek for our primary vet services.

I feel like I have wasted money every time I tried to give this place a chance. My issues with my pets were never solved and I was given the run around in answers. I never felt listened to or respected by the Veterinarian, and was constantly over talked and undermined when trying to explain my concerns as a customer. I have had to spend more money to get a second opinion at another vet where my concerns were actually addressed and solved appropriately and the customer service was amazing. My only positive was the pleasant front desk associates. I do not recommend going to this place if you want service that will go above and beyond for you and your pet's needs.

Everyone that works in here is always so sweet and caring. They take wonderful care of my babies. They were even able to squeeze my cat in when he was having a medical emergency and help him immediately. They truly care about the health and happiness of animals here we love taking our babies to them!

My pups are skittish around new people. Dr Clarke was like an old friend on our first visit. My 'kids' were giving kisses and super comfortable right off the bat. Super compassionate. Takes the time to actually explain things. Great hours. Full service. I HIGHLY recommend!!!!!
