How to Save Money at Independence Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My husband found this veterinary clinic about a year ago when we first got our pups, and he stated he liked their service. It's been about a year, and it was time for a follow-up, so this time, I came and brought my Chihuahua for his yearly follow-up. This location is super close to our home. The appointment was set for 8:30 am and walked in around 8:20 and was immediately brought to an exam room. The receptionist was super nice and welcoming. This is located in a business park so there are plenty of parking spaces to choose from. The inside was super clean and modernly decorated. They had plenty of treats located conviently around the office and exam rooms. The Dr. I believe it was Dr. Benjamin, and she was super nice and knowledgeable. She explained exactly what my dog needed and what she recommended. I loved that before I agreed to any treatment, medicines, etc., they offered to let me know exactly how much everything was going to cost before I accepted. They help you out, and if for some reason you can not get everything done right away, she let's you know what's more important now and what can wait. I definitely recommend this place and will continue to bring my doggies here.

We visit the clinic since my guinea pig was an skin problem and I was very worried. This was an amazing visit, the staff and the vet were very nice at me, starting with the receptionist she was super nice and welcoming, the Doctor and the girl that helped us were very nice and professional, they answered all my questions and gave a lot of information on how to take care of my guinea pig. The clinic is very clean and very well organized, they really care about you and your pet. I truly recommend this place for all kind of pets, they give the extra mile to help you and to get the best treatment for your baby. Thanks to all the team at Independence Veterinary Clinic for the wonderful work you do!!!!!

For my thirteen year old dog, Ella, vet visits have always been extremely traumatic for her. It hasn't ever been a fault of the vets or staff I have encountered, she is simply an anxious dog with severe animal aggressions issues and she gets easily overwhelmed. However, this last visit with this clinic was the first time she has had a good experience. The staff went above and beyond to meet her needs in a way that she was comfortable with. They greeted her like a guest of honor and treated her like the princess she is. And the relief it gave both me and her cannot be put into words. Previously, I had to make judgement calls on whether it was more harmful to bring her in for regular visits than it was worth and this visit has taken the anxiety out of vet visits for both me and Ella. I genuinely cannot thank the staff enough for their bedside manner and the regular check-ins they made after our visit and their patience with my excessive questions. It really shows that they care about the animals they treat and the pet parents that fret over their babies, not just the money they get for doing so and I genuinely cannot give them enough praise for all they did. 10 out of 10, would definitely recommend.

I’m so impressed with this vet clinic. We just switched after our other vet closed. One of our dogs has lots of ongoing medical issues, and it can be difficult to find someone who takes the time to fully understand all of our concerns. Independence Vet got us an appointment within a day of my initial call, there was no waiting time once we arrived, and Dr. Benjamin and team were extremely thorough with my old girl. They listened to me, they made recommendations, and let me know pricing up front so I could decide what we’d do. The techs were patient and gave my girl lots of treats — she even tolerated the shots and blood draw well due to the techs’ careful hands (and treats!😉). They’ve since called three times and texted me once to check in on how my girl is doing. Dr. B. even spent 15 min with me during her follow up call. This is incredible care and customer service in my eyes. Thank you, Independence Veterinary Clinic team! I feel like we have found a family who cares for my pups like we do.

My 14 year old fur baby recently fell ill and our current vet was out of the office. I called Independence Vet and they saw her that same day. I have never had an experience at any Vet in the 14 years I have had my baby, like I had here. I usually just take the day off when she needs to go because you spend half the day in the waiting room. Not here! I was greeted by my pups name and a smile, then taken straight to a very nice room. There isn't a waiting room in sight. The Vet tech came in fast and addressed all of my concerns. We then saw Dr. Benjamin and I just fell in love with her. She is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things to you. She was very thorough in her exam and I felt very comfortable with her findings. The blood test process was fast and Dr. Benjamin herself, called me with the results. She gave me time to ask questions and addressed my concerns. When they closed for the weekend, I got a call from the tech to be sure I had no concerns before they left for the weekend. I mean... you cannot ask for a better team for your fur baby. I don't normally leave reviews, but I have told all my friends and family about this office. This will be our new vet office from now on! Thank you Dr. Benjamin and staff!
