How to Save Money at UrgentVet - Chapel Hill, NC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am so glad to have an urgent care vet in the area. Just a few years ago, your only options were your regular vet if they were open or the emergency hospital. Urgent Vet fills a huge need at a lower cost than the emergency services. Our wait was very short when we checked in ahead online, less than half an hour (this was early evening in the middle of the week). Our pooch was ready for pick up two hours earlier than promised and the price was $300 less than estimated, and Sweet Potato got great care. I was reassured by how thoroughly my concerns were addressed and the discharge instructions were quite detailed. We also received a follow-up e-mail the next day from Urgent Vet checking on Potato, and a call from our regular vet, as Urgent Vet sent the record of the visit over immediately. Other than the fact that our dog needed urgent care to begin with, I was very pleased with the whole experience. Extra kudos to Kyle and Dr. Camacho! Potato immediately decided they were her new best friends as soon as they came in the exam room, and they were so great with her.

No trip to an emergency veterinary clinic is pleasant. I came from Mebane and was so impressed with the service and care that my boy Sam received. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated with excellent care. I loved the fact that they treated him right in the op with me there, not taking him back to an unknown area. The total fee was completely understandable given it was the weekend. Happy to report it’s only been 24 hours and he’s feeling so much better!! Highly recommended! Don’t second guess yourself just go, you’ll be impressed too!! The Vet tech (wished I knew her name) was phenomenal! Give her and doctor a big raise!! They both are amazing and very deserving! Cathy

Brought my Corgi in when she started having tummy issues. The staff were really great with her, very informative to me, and found the solution for getting my little monster back to full health. She is running around doing borks and chasing her liddle nub butt in circles again! Will definitely be recommending UrgentVet to friends and family with pets.

Served promptly at appointment time by very nice and caring people. Vet assistant and vet were great, delivering professional care. Diagnostic options were presented with no pressure. The staff handled my pet with obvious caring attitude. I would not hesitate to go back to this urgent care and recommend it highly.

One of the best experiences I have ever had with an emergency vet. The wait was literally 5 mins, the staff were super knowledgeable and so sweet! My pup got the meds he needed & they gave be great future treatment suggestions. The bill wasn't too bad and they were very up front with costs & treatment breakdowns. My pup is on the mend. I am truly grateful.
