How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff was amazing in their care and medical ability. We will forever be grateful for their love and care for Reggie. They rallied around him with so much attention. We as the family stayed the night because of his critical state and the staff cared for us as much as their patients. Everyone was amazing. Even though they may not be have been involved in his direct care, they had such love and affection for Reggie. We thank everyone from the doctors to the vet techs. But we will forever be grateful for Erika and her care through those first 12 hours. She never lost hope and provided him with the necessary medical care and love in the process. She kept us well informed and allowed us to be part of his care. She also supported us as family during this traumatic time. I highly recommend VEG if your pet is ever in an emergent situation.

Great emergency care that didn’t break the bank. All of the staff were caring and obviously loved animals. Our dog received amazing care from Dr. Nilles and the two nurses that cared for Audrey. We were there for about 3 1/2 hours but it was comfortable, we got to sit with our dog on a sofa. So many families came in and the environment was calm, professional and supportive to all

My old dachshund got injured by another one of my dogs and needed immediate help. I called VEG and described the wound, they told me to come right in. I received a text to check in. They were waiting for us and my dog was seen immediately. He needed some extensive repair and they started his treatment within 20 min. Everyone was very kind. I will definitely return if I ever have an urgent need. Highly recommend.

My puppy Jura presented with vomiting, diarrhea, and severe dehydration which seemed to happen overnight. The staff was incredibly helpful with explaining all of the treatment options, and treating both him and myself with care and understanding. They even allowed me to stay with him overnight in a patient room while he was being treated, which was fantastic for his (and my) anxiety. The open floor plan of the facility allowed me to have visual contact with my dog through all of his treatments which I also liked, as it made me feel much more in the loop. I know they were unusually busy that day, so I really appreciated that when I couldn’t be there, the doctor took my call and talked to me when I called for an update. Really top notch service from everyone there, and I have, and will continue to recommend VEG to anyone I know with pets in the future.

VEG is an INCREDIBLE place for pets and families who are going through a difficult time. What makes VEG unique is that you can stay with your pet the entire time they’re there, you can even sleep there if you need to. Our 15 year dog, Snickers, was in acute kidney failure due to an infection when we were directed by our primary vet to take him to VEG. Our vet called ahead, and we received treatment very shortly after arriving. Because of VEG’s model, we were able to stay with him, sleep there with him in a special family room, and be involved in the entire treatment process. We know it helped our dog to have us there, just as much as it helped us to be close to him. We were there from Thursday morning to Saturday afternoon, and every single staff member we interacted with was amazing. They were so clear about what was happening with him, what they were doing when they treated him, and let us ask as many questions we needed. I truly believe he made enough improvement, and that we were able to bring him home to continue treatment, because of their tireless efforts. He particularly bonded with one of the vet techs named Dolly while we were there, and she was so patient and understanding with us. Shout out to Dolly, we couldn’t be more grateful for you! We couldn’t recommend VEG more, and we’ll be raving about them to everyone.
