How to Save Money at Ridge Runner Pet Lodging

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was disappointed by the difference in services listed on the website and the services that were received in actuality. I boarded my cats here for several days while I was out of town. When I brought my cats home I noticed immediately that one of them needed medical attention. I am extremely disappointed that a boarding service that has an on site vet and an on site emergency clinic that is open 24/7 was unable to notice this problem and provide help. If I am paying this much to board my pets, I expect them to actually be cared for. Because this issue was not noticed by any staff I have paid almost $600 in vet bills, and I am now dealing with something that will be a lifelong problem and will potentially require serious surgery in the future. I would not recommend anyone to this facility, and I question if my cats were even being attended to. I am updating this review almost a year later to say that three days after I picked my cats up, my one year old cat mentioned above, passed away. Due to the lack of action by Ridge Runner while my cat was there and was presenting with this medical issue there was very little I could do because this was ongoing during his stay and no action was taken. By the time I got him home and took him to an emergency vet there was nothing to be done except make him comfortable in his passing. I remain extremely disappointed with the services provided by Ridge Runner and I strongly discourage everyone from boarding their pets here.

Placed our sweet Bella for the boarding while we stayed at Sugar Top and went skiing. Staff called with concern of our sweet baby not eating her dinner. Bella did end up eating all her dinner thanks to.all the staff. They took excellent care of here for three days. Also Bella had so much fun playing on the ridge and with all the other doggy friends. Great place to drop for the day or have an extended stay overnight while you enjoy Boone and surrounding areas. We will be back next time we are up.

My dog loves going to Ridge Runner! When I pick him up he goes on and on about how much fun he had. Okay, well maybe not, but he does come home happy and tired, and he is always really excited to go back. The people who work there are friendly, responsive, and seem to genuinely love the dogs. I have no concerns about leaving my pup there, and I highly recommend it to others.

This experience was terrible. I completed registration online, which was very lengthy for 2 dogs. We showed up and they had no record of it. I ordered extra services that they never received. I asked how they did when I picked them up and nobody could tell me! Both dogs smelled horribly and had dried excrement in their hair. One one of my dogs came home ill, vomiting and diarrhea as soon as we brought them home. Awful place. Never again.

First things first I love these people more than anything. Me and my pup had a rough time recently and I had to put her in daycare while I was at work and school. The staff accommodated us and were so helpful in making my pup feel right at home. My dog looks forward to going to daycare despite her severe separation anxiety and always returns home happy and wore out! I couldnt thank the staff enough for taking care of my pup while I'm not at home and giving her all the attention and play time she deserves!
