How to Save Money at Cat Clinic of Asheville

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am so thankful that I brought PB to Cat Clinic and am so grateful for their staff. As a fearful, anxious kitty, she struggled to visit her last vet to the point where they declined to see her unless she was fully anesthetized/put under. The entire staff at the Cat Clinic is extremely understanding of her needs and the stress of vet visits have been dramatically reduced for PB and I both. It is about the same price as her previous vet in East Asheville but I am so much happier with the quality of care she receives here!

Had a wonderful first visit. Compared to larger corporate vets the experience was like night and day. Much more time for the appointment, they went the pace our cat was comfortable with (slow). Cats only meant no dogs barking to reduce her stress levels. Transparent pricing. Would recommend 110%.

Edited: I was not going to share details of my experience with this clinic but after their response, I did feel it was necessary. It appears that they like to bully/challenge people who give them low ratings. I have never seen a business respond in such a hostile way. It’s very alarming and it is relevant to why I made the one star review (if I could rate them lower, believe me, I would.) I brought two of my cats to this clinic (multiple times) and each time was disappointing and unprofessional. Both of my cats healths deteriorated under their “care”. And when under new evaluation, I was informed after looking over what the Cat Clinic provided, a lot of what I was charged was unnecessary. The new doctors were even confused by the diagnosis and the medication prescribed by the Cat Clinic. We have had a really hard time finding a good vet in Asheville and I know I’m not alone in this. Their lack of compassion and understanding is beyond cruel- just one of the many reasons why we left. It is also amazing that they have staff who have the time and means to research peoples reviews and leave the rebuttals they do. Wish they had spent that much effort on the care of our cats 😅 Would love to know if this is a clinical staff or a doctor responding?? Either way, there are better veterinarian practices out there, it’s just a trial and error.

The best service for a cat in all of North Carolina. They have the BEST staff in the world. When my cat needed surgery they talked me through the whole thing and calmed me down. It's not expensive either. If you are wondering how this could get any better, they have a Wonderful boarding service. I recommend this place to everyone.

We just moved here from Florida and are truly amazed at how wonderful the Cat Care Clinic of Asheville is. The people are amazing and really care about the cats' well being. The facilities are modern and there are whimsical "feline related" touches all over. We started at another veterinary clinic a few months earlier but quickly switched when our friend told us about the Cat Care Clinic of Asheville. The initial appointments with our 2 cats were comprehensive and led to some needed follow up care for one of them that was not identified at the previous clinic. We have lived many places and had great care from Veterinarians and their staffs. However, our experience here is the best we have ever had.
