How to Save Money at Andrews Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff is wonderful and caring you cannot beat their attitude about helping your pet get better. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing veterinarian care on the fly. They do not mess around. I called other places and they was not interested but when I called them they said bring him on and I did and he survived his condition. Thank you Andrews veterinary Hospital. We now care about you.

Andrews veterinary in Andrews NC was absolutely great to take our Bella girl. Our boxer and terrible breath ant had to extract several of her teeth. Recovery was very easy, the Dr. And all the techs explained everything to us so we could understand the process. Thank you leah and Christine for all you did for us and making Bella feel better.

What an awesome caring team! We've only had 1 visits (semi emergency) and they got us right in, got all his (Diesel, a 10 y/o Olde English Bulldogge) records from his previous vet and treated him with kindness and respect along with explaining everything and our options. They Def didn't just push expensive treatments just because like his last vet of 3 years did. As a Bulldog owner we are super duper picky as to who we see as they require a unique approach and tend to have lots of silly medical issues. AVH came highly recommended and I can see why. So glad we found a new family!

Andrews Vet has always been wonderful to our family and our pets ! ❤️ They even checked in with us after our new puppy visit to make sure she was doing good. We have gone to them for years and will continue to do so. They truly care about every animal they see and they are always friendly and personable. Dr. Baker is the best vet I've ever worked with and I wish more vet practices operated the way Andrew's Vet does.

Over the last three days, our beloved and usually very healthy 18 year old Ragdoll cat was in obvious pain while trying to use the litter box. He was in a scary state that we have never seen before. We have just moved here from Charleston and had not yet secured a new veterinary practice. In a panic, I called 4 different area offices from Blairsville, Hiawassee, to Murphy and none were able to get Charlie in! Andrews veterinary hospital was referred to us, so we sought out reviews, which we found to be excellent. Andrews is about 45 minutes from us and we hoped they could get us in that day. Rachel cheerfully answered the phone and she took my concerns very seriously. Even though they had another emergency case come in, she and the staff understood the potential danger of a male cat with possible blockage and she welcomed us to come within a few hours of my call! Christine showed us to a room and she was very concerned and gentle with Charlie as she tried to assess his needs. She put my mind at ease as she performed her intake duties and was careful to keep Charlie comfortable. Leah then came in with the same compassion and caring manner as we discussed what was possibly going on. Leah also showed great care and concern for Charlie's comfort. She is an obvious cat lover. These amazing ladies helped me as well with my mother's worry. When I thought it couldn't get any better, Dr. Taylor Martin came in with a level of warm professionalism, humor, and obvious feline expertise. She assured me and Charlie that although we were unsure of what was ailing him, we were going to be alright. Dr. Martin is amazing and her committed team spent more than 2 hours with us. Never once did I feel rushed. Charlies was their priority! They gave him meds to make him comfortable went to work. During that time I feel that I have found not only an exceptional veterinary hospital, but new friends as well! I highly recommend Andrews Veterinary Hospital and will continue to travel "around the mountain" (45minutes from Hayesville) to get there from our new home! Charlie is doing so much better today and is getting back to normal! Love you ladies! Thank you!
