How to Save Money at Whitefish Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We experienced top-level customer support at this local animal hospital. While on a road trip, our cat fell ill, and luckily, they accommodated us for a next-day appointment. Dr. Thompson was truly amazing, providing a clear and concise assessment of our cat’s condition and expertly answering all of our questions. The office itself was immaculately clean, and the added bonus of complimentary cookies and coffee made the experience even more pleasant. Moreover, the prices and fees were very reasonable. The exceptional service and care they provided are making us consider cutting our road trip short and seriously contemplate moving to Montana!

Whitefish Animal Hospital is absolutely fantastic. My guinea pig got bumblefoot and had an open sore on one of his paws, and his usual vet was not available. Not all vets will treat exotic animals, so I was really panicking, calling all around the valley, and this clinic fit me in the same day! They let me drop him off before work and called me with updates. They took such good care of him!!! They even pre-measured all his syringes of medication, which was a huge help to me. They called me the day after they saw my guinea pig to check on how he was doing and I appreciate that so much. Definitely professional and compassionate care. Would take my piggy to them again!

They will spoil your pet with lots of of love and a treat. They listened to my concerns with my Gracie and took the time to answer my questions and made suggestions. Highly recommend them they exceeded my expectations. Your fur baby will thank you.🐕❤️😺

This clinic exposes the greedy side of veterinary medicine. I am left feeling taken advantage of and blindsided by the amount of upcharge this clinic has for their services. Don’t let their exorbitant prices fool you into thinking the quality of veterinary care will match the price you pay. I implore anyone that is a current client or plans on becoming one to PLEASE get estimates for services in writing prior to agreeing to anything. According to the code of ethics set forth by the American Veterinary Medical Association “The decision to accept or decline treatment and related cost should be based on adequate discussion of clinical findings, diagnostic techniques, treatment, likely outcome, estimated cost, and reasonable assurance of payment. Once the veterinarian and the client have agreed, and the veterinarian has begun patient care, they may not neglect their patient and must continue to provide professional services related to that injury or illness within the previously agreed limits. As subsequent needs and costs for patient care are identified, the veterinarian and client must confer and reach agreement on the continued care and responsibility for fees.” Seeing as my bill was double the price I was quoted over the phone I did not by any means reach an agreement as to what I was going to be charged for. Please do not fall victim to this clinic and their ploy to exploit your wallet. You don’t have to pay Whitefish prices to get a high standard of care, there are higher quality veterinary clinics in the valley that will uphold their integrity and provide you with services that match the price you pay.

Attentive staff, knowledgeable vets, always a good visit. Recently we had to put down one of our three dogs and the staff was wonderful in caring for him and for us.
