How to Save Money at Luckney Animal Hospital: Ben Zieren, DVM

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Luckney Animal Hospital is by far the best vet around. Not only do they give exceptional care, but they are also reasonably priced. My dog went through heart worm treatment a couple years ago and they were amazing. It’s very easy to stay on top of my dog’s annuals because they send you reminders when each shot or treatment is due. Their boarding facility is top notch and has rooms and suites for bigger dogs which my lab loves for when we go out of town.

I have been using Luckney animal since they opened and have been so impressed by their compassion. I came home around 5 pm and found my poodle mix Sugar had a stroke and i called them they told me to cring her in even though they closed at 5:30. I got there about 5:20 Dr Z did some test and there was nothing they could do so she had to be put down. They stayed there till about 6:15 letting me have time with her and i ,ill never forget that.

Dr. Ben is amazing! When I brought my cat to Luckney Animal Hospital, he had been tested for ear mites twice with negative results. Dr. Ben found ear mites right away, and not only gave me the appropriate treatment, but took the time to explain and answer my questions. He was very straightforward and honest. There are many vets in the area that will charge you an arm and a leg to run needless excessive tests, but Dr. Ben is not one of them. He educated me on my cat’s behavior and calmed my concerns. Luckney Animal Hospital is now my regular vet, and I could not be happier with the service I receive every single time.

We took our new puppy to Luckney Animal Hospital and had a great experience! The staff were very attentive and helpful. They answered all our questions. Dr Z gave us some great advice that really helped us in training our puppy. Wow! It worked! Love our new Vet😊❤️

My family has been taking our pets to this clinic for several years, but we will be making the switch now. Our family dog has been seen by their doctors several times for these cysts that were growing on her body. Over and over again, we were told that these cysts were nothing to worry about. Just harmless fatty cysts. Eventually, we knew something was off and we chose to seek a second opinion. At this other clinic, the doctor immediately found the problem. They are not just fatty cysts. It is cancer. One cyst in particular, which has been growing at an alarming rate, was the main culprit. This veterinarian said that this cyst should have been the first sign, yet Luckney animal hospital never caught it. This is not the first upsetting experience with Luckney. When our other family dog was euthanized in their clinic, we were met with a very blunt and unsympathetic Dr. Zieren who made the experience much worse and even awkward. I would not recommend this clinic, there are better ones to choose from.
