How to Save Money at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Clarissa really took the time to get to know my kitten Bella and to make friends with her which helped her to be more comfortable for her first visit to a vet. Then the vet came in and they answered all my questions and took care of everything patiently and with no problems. My girl actually likes her carrier now as I think she had a pleasant experience with the whole visit. Great place and wonderful people to work with!!

The entire staff at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital are fantastic! They care for my pet as their own, call to check in on us after visits, and were great to work with when our pet had an emergency. The doctors also have worked with us to keep our pet in the best health as possible for her breed.

First, this place is incredible. I’ve relied on the same vet for over 25 yrs for my bloodhounds. Unfortunately i moved and hour and a half away. So i did my research. I had decided on this place. But before i could even make the appointment, my current bloodhound “Gibbs” had an emergency. They got him in immediately. Treated him and also calmed my anxiety at the same time. I know each breed is different, and since he is a giant breed dog, i was scared they would not know his breed or how to care for him properly. But that fear was set aside immediately. “Gibbs” went to for his vaccinations, his nail trim, and his ears to be flushed and cleaned. I explained that he has had to be sedated to get his nails and ears done. He’s high anxiety (but that’s probably because he’s literally my baby) i let them know that no one has been able to trim the nails unless he is sedated. They sedated him, and allowed me to hold and comfort him while he was slowly, but surely, starting to become unaware of his surroundings, as he began to fall asleep. It did take him a bit because of his anxiety. He seemed to fight it. And they saw that very quickly. I’m going to say the name or spell it wrong, but Chrissa was absolutely amazing. She worked quickly and very thoroughly with his ears while also at the time reassuring me, I could tell that she has a deep love for animals and for their owners, she simply amazing and is doing her Calling! Thank you Carissa. Second, Dr. Miltonberger is absolutely amazing, compassionate and thorough. thank you for caring for gibbs. finally, Jen is so kind and caring and she knows the animals when she sees them walk in the door. When you call, she has such a welcoming voice and when you see her, she is welcoming in person. All of the rest of the staff popped in to see my Giant dog sleeping well and snoring like a grown man. Gibs and i thank each and every one of you for the love, the work, and compassion. See you all soon Love Gibbs and Michelle

My two dogs are family members and I want them to have the best possible medical care. Bentley and Beemer have been treated by Dr. Miller and her very capable staff for their entire lives and I would never consider going anywhere else. I want these two little guys to be around for a long time so I insist on the best care possible for them and I feel that I am getting that at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital.
