How to Save Money at Emergency Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Excellent staff and highly trained Doctors! They brought my fur baby back to life after his heart stopped. He had very little chance of survival, even after they got him back. They worked through the weekend to stabilize and bring his levels up(which were off the charts). We were blessed to pick our baby up Monday and take him home❤ 5 days later he is doing spectacular!! He got his bark back...and we are so thankful to everyone at Emergency Veterinary Clinic of SW Missouri! Your the best!

This clinic is amazing! We live an hour away from an emergency vet clinic but our sweet Gunner (black Lab) ate a cat toy early this morning. When we got to the clinic, all of the girls hopped into action immediately taking his vitals and getting an X-ray. The vet came out within 10-15 minutes and told us he would be okay. We are so thankful for the loving and caring staff at this clinic. I definitely recommend this emergency vet clinic! Here is a picture of our sweet boy in the car after his trip inside.

We live about 50 minutes from here and are no where close to other vets. When we arrived we had to wait a little bit but were treated nicely, wait times were atrocious but that is expected, nobody’s fault there. We thought staff was quite nice, treated our dog well and were very educated. We had a very low budget as this was not a great time at all for us but also of course unplanned. I think they are pretty fair priced as far as Emergency rooms go. Hopefully we don’t have to be back but in case of emergency we will keep them in mind.

My dog is not very socialized so he gets anxious and will bark and growl at people/other dogs. I went in around 8pm Monday night and there was only 1 person ahead of us. The front desk girl was so nice and sweet. We got checked and and was pretty much immediately brought back to a room. The first lady that got his weight and temp was so nice and patient with my pupper which made him more comfortable. The vet was also very nice and gave us good news, after our regular vet scared us and told us it was something much worse. Now my puppy, after taking his meds and following this vets treatment, is all better! Thank you so much for all of the staffs kindness there. You can tell they really care and love the animals that come in and out of there. You truly made it a great experience for my pup 🩷

Yesterday morning 4-5-24 I wake up, And my male standard Daschaund was having difficulty with urination, And lots of blood. Of course it was a Sunday, So off to the emergency vet we went. From the time I walked through the door, I was met with kindness, And concern for my Dog/Best friends health. The staff were amazingly kind. To say I was scared, Is an understatement, And they went out of their way, To comfort my dog, Bear, And me with answering as many questions as they could. The vet was amazing, She took the time to talk with us, And explain in detail what she thought, What she wanted to do, And made sure we were alright with everything, And the prices, Up front before moving forward. I loved the up front transparency, No hidden surprises with cost. He ended up with a UTI, And bladder stones. They have a fully stocked pharmacy, So were able to go home with the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory, Which was great not having to wait until the next day, To get it somewhere else. I truly hope you never have to visit them, But if you do, You can feel confident in their compassionate, Caring, And knowledgeable treat of your fur babies!! I highly recommend them, And will use them again, If we ever need emergency services. They truly care about your pet, As much as you do. Thank you to the Dr. And all of the staff, We appreciate you being there to help, When nobody else is!!
