How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very disappointed and will never be going back to Banfield. We took our german shepard to Banfield back in December to see what was wrong with him. They suspected lymphoma and said it would be nearly $1000 to test. We told them we could not afford that so they recommended a medication trial. The meds didn't help so we brought him back for a quality of life check where they said he had cancer and the best thing to do is euthanasia. They didn't even recommend a second opinion before suggesting to euthanize. After weeks of being heart broken and great consideration, our friend told us about her vet. We took our boy there and we appreciate them so much. After testing for cancer for less than $100 we found out that he in fact does NOT have cancer! We almost killed our baby boy over a simple thyroid issue causing all his symptoms! It tooke less than $400 to pay for everything he needs to begin recovering!!!

I recently adopted two cats and received two exams. I was hesitant use them because a corporate ran vet would be a cash grab. Boy was I right. The waiting area is abysmal for any animal. Open to constant traffic. Lots of unusual noises. The waiting environment is putting stress on all ready stressed animals. You have to carry animals with sensitive ears across a parking lot close to a major traffic way. Oh yeah, this going to make a vet visit a positive experience for a pet. (Sarcasm) I did decide to get the cats feline leukemia vaccinations. They were already spayed and had all shots for indoor. This turned into a three trip process over two months. I don't blame this on Banfield as cats get sick. What bothers me about it is my youngest kitten had a reaction to the vaccine and after waiting on hold for 15 minutes at 9:00 am I hung up and called Grant Animal Hospital to see if I could get her in. Thank goodness they have a Urgent Care. My Bee is now resting comfortably with pain meds and antibiotics. The way I see it is I paid this place over $700 for 3 visits and couldn't even get help when I needed it. Then it cost me another $150 on top of that to get the proper resolution. Another thing I do not like about this vet is they will not let you go back with your pets. Even if you book an in room appointment they will just take your pet at the front desk. You never meet the vet face to face. Listen up corporate shithead I want to see/talk to the person treating my animal and how my animals react to you. You are not entitled to trust with my animals just because of a college degree. For all I know there isn't even a vet on site. How am I suppose to trust that? Ttyl: Banfield of Springfield does not care about your pet, just you money. It's a revolving door that doesn't include the pet owner. Forget about getting a hold of them when you need them.

I just have to add to my previous review of Banfield of Springfield, Missouri. I did cancel my OWP with this facility and requested my pet's records to be transferred to a local vet. Once again, Banfield of Springfield, Missouri did not FAIL to DISAPPOINT.....they succeeded to disappoint on a whole new level! I not only requested Nicole Velotta transfer these records ONCE I requested the records be transferred FIVE times by EMAIL. I contacted the Banfield of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and they had the records transferred within an hour! KUDOS and FIVE STARS to BROKEN ARROW, OK!!! The only thing IU would give Springfield five stars on is incompetence! I have had an optimal wellness plan for 15 years for my sweet old man and have been very pleased. However, I recently moved to Missouri and now have had to go to the Springfield office because its the closest....even though its 2 hours away. I have called on at least two different occasions (I called in the morning and had to do a followup call in the afternoon because I did not get a return call ) and they put me on hold until 6:00 p.m. and then they come back on to tell me the doctor is gone for the day. This morning I called and asked two questions. I was told the doctor was in surgery and would call me back. I was told an inhaler was $75.00 but she would have to ask the doctor if I needed to bring my dog in first. I waited all day for her to call me back and of course she didn't so I called back and asked the same two questions. The receptionist put me on hold and came back with the answers but she then said the inhaler would be $400.00! When I asked why it had gone up so much since this morning she put me on hold until 6:00 (21 minutes!!) and then came back and said they were closed and the doctor would call me NEXT WEEK. What kind of clinic are they running? I will be driving back to Oklahoma from now on. These people are rude and inconsiderate and very unprofessional and have no compassion at all for humans or animals! Would not recommend.

When I need Cookie( my schnauzer) to be seen for an issue they are always quick about getting her in as soon as possible. They take good care of her when she's being treated and always polite!!!

This place has taken care of our English Bulldog Leela for around 10 years. She turns 12 in July and that's partly because of the Healthcare Banfield has given her at the Springfield MO location.
