How to Save Money at Pet Resource Center of Kansas City
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I couldn’t praise this place enough! I took my almost 3 year old Bernese mountain dog there for a neutering and the entire process with them has been such a breeze. The drop off went super smooth, I only had to wait about 10 minutes for them to come get him from my car. He was ready for pick up within a few hours and the lady who brought him out was very nice and knowledgeable about the recovery process and the medications. Even though my dog is an “adult” he still has so much puppy energy so I was worried about his recovery process. I emailed them with pictures and concerns and they replied back in less than 10 minutes saying everything looked good and I could come back to pick up some more medicine. When I got there, they already had his medicine ready to go! Everyone there is so nice, and Rome is so happy. His primary vet quoted us over $800 for the same surgery and PRCKC did it for a quarter of the price. I will be coming here for any other surgeries/concerns about my baby and will be recommending this place to all my family and friends!

What an amazingly positive experience I had at Pet Resource Center of Kansas City. I took my puppy there to be neutered. Every single person I encountered (which was four) were incredibly kind and so very gentle with my sweet baby. They are so affordable and you get top notch service. Be kind to them because you will have to wait, but it's not that bad. Say thank you because they do care and show the kindness are furry family members deserve.

Absolutely incredible on the urgent care side. A lot of people complain because you have to wait so long. The thing is we need more of these places around the city. They’re the only ones offering these kinds of services towards the under privileged that can’t pay a bunch of money. They are incredibly kind, patient and so so much passion for the people that they serve even when they aren’t showed that in return. They’re helping relieve so much suffering, keep doing what you’re doing! ❤️

I would highly recommend bringing all of your animals to this center. Recently, we brought our three female pups here to be spayed and had a very pleasant experience. First, bringing three dogs at once was quite pricey but they were able to work with us on paying. Also, our dogs are not leash trained, are not used to other people, and have not been away from the house regularly. The staff did phenomenal ensuring they were comfortable and cared for, even though our girls are quite dramatic. Even coming home they have made sure they were comfortable and properly healing. They were quick, compassionate, and ready to help. They definitely made it easy on us to get the care we needed for our fur babies.

Other reviews are correct about it taking a while to complete check-in/drop-off; however, this is only because they are intaking so many animals. The process was incredibly smooth and as streamlined as possible. My appointment was for 8:55, I hopped into the car line at 8:45/50ish, and was gone by 9:10. They called me right when my dog, Sophie, was out of surgery and pick-up took only maybe 20 minutes. I would recommend getting there early if possible like I was able to! Sophie's spay was Monday, and as of writing this on late Friday night, she's doing great. They sent us home with great and detailed instructions, and when I emailed with concerns earlier today they promptly responded. Sophie has had no issues with her incision site or her green line tattoo. She even was higher risk due to being a little bit chunkier and from being in heat, but they handled her with no issues. Even though it's a bit of a drive for me, I will be returning for future vaccinations and any other major surgeries; I recommend them very highly! They are affordable and do great work within the community for the pets and strays that also call this area home.
