How to Save Money at Bridgeton Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Anytime I have had to call, the receptionist is very rude, she is short, and does not listen when you are speaking or asking a question. But the main reason for this review is the awful experience the day I had to put down my sweet boy. It was the worst experience I have ever had when putting down a beloved pet. When we first got in they wanted to get his weight, we struggled for 15 minutes, he’s had an accident, is bleeding, and can barley stand on his back legs, but yet we are still trying to get his weight. Finally they decided they didn’t need it, then we go in the room with him. The vet was very nice. We are asked to leave the room so they can put the catheter in his arm, and we go out and pay. There are 2 receptionist working. 1 that is new and the other is the rude one. As the new receptionist was taking the guest in front of us, the other one sat there and did nothing but answer the phone when it rang. I had to wait 15 minutes for my turn. My husband had to tell the vet to wait to finish putting my Charlie down since I wasn’t in the room yet. I lost my last moments with Charlie because there was no consideration. I’m not saying they should have jumped to serve me, but there were 2 people working the desk. I should have been able to be in the room with him the whole time. Someone should have came into the room and took our payment. I recently called to see if they had his paw print, and the rude receptionist, said she did not see it, looks like it was misplaced. I will never go here, ever again. The main receptionist needs to take classes in customer service, because it’s clear she lacks in it.

If you want the best vets in the world go here!! Especially if you have a frenchie! Dr. Kay, Dr. Pierre and Dr. Erick have been a God send. They know breeds (especially frenchies and short nosed breeds) extremely well and all their medical quirks. My frenchie Barry was so sick and they were able to diagnose him with an extremely rare condition, none of them had actually seen during their careers. They literally saved his life!! I'm forever grateful. They have been seeing him since he was a puppy with all his weird medical stuff - this is just one example. It is apparent that Dr. Kay truly cares for her animal patients, I've never had a vet treat Barry like family! The whole staff knows their stuff so they cut right to the chase with treatments and don't go crazy on unnecessary testing, they are also cognizant on pricing so don't worry about surprise bills. Also to note - they respond so fast and act quickly! With much love and gratitude - thank you Bridgeton Animal staff!!

Dr. Erick seemed to genuinely care about my dog and his conditions and never once did I feel like he was trying to hurry me out of the office like other vets I've gone to in the past. I appreciate how Dr. Erick wants to get to the root of the cause of my dog's issues. Everything he said made logical sense to me.

Drs Pierre and Kay are top-notch for any Boston Terrier family! The staff here are kind and treat you like family. We've been coming here for 17 years and will continue as long as Dr. Kay and Dr. Pierre are there! My son's favorite part of visiting is looking at the pictures of Dr. Pierre taking care of the animals at the St Louis Zoo.

I bring my two cats and two dogs here. The vets are very knowledgeable, kind, and have great communication. One thing I've found lacking in a lot of clinics is communication, which I understand since many clinics are extremely busy, so I really appreciate the extra step bridgeton animal hospital takes to keep owners in the loop of their pets healthcare. One of my dogs had a dental surgery and the doctor doing the operation sent me an in-depth email explaining what was done during the surgery, any future surgeries she may need, and recommended products for preventative care. Great clinic, super nice doctors, and not really any more expensive than any other clinics I've taken my pets to.
