How to Save Money at Homey Gnome Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Homey Gnome is the best vet I have used. I will not go anywhere else unless we have an emergency. The staff is always so kind and caring. They care so much about your animals and do everything they can for them. A friend recommended Homey Gnome to me a few years back and I am so grateful. Thank you for all of your hard work and caring for animals the way their owners care for them!

I am so thankful for this place and all the people who work here. In a time of high stress and in the mist of a very rough week of bad experiences with another vet, the staff at Homey Gnome made us feel a million times better. Dr. Noemi Plantz, Jenna, and Mila thank you so much for treating us with kindness and being incredibly knowledgeable. Steve’s and I can’t thank you enough ❤️ Even though it’s an hour drive, this is now my primary clinic for my bunnies! 🐰 🐰

Was recommended here after my normal vet wouldn’t see Guinea pigs, and I might end up bringing all my animals here! The staff was very understanding, kind, and knowledgeable. They were able to see my 4 Guinea pigs to check for ulcers and they handled them very well. The price was a lot less than I expected and they even sent my pigs home with an extra toy!

I don’t typically write reviews, rather I do word of mouth; however, our experience at Homey Gnome is one to write about. This last month, my 10.5yr old dog started having seizures, we have struggled with our current vet trying to get the help we need and feeling heard. I asked around for a new place that could help us. I must say from the first phone call to walking out of our visit, I was so impressed, felt heard, and my dog cared for. My dog was anxious being there, I was sitting on the floor with him, the vet tech Sarah was amazing, she saw Arie couldn’t get comfortable, she brought him a rug and blanket. At one point, I started crying in the visit- a sleep deprived dog mom that wants what’s best for her dog, she showed empathy. Then Dr. Polanco came in, didn’t hesitate sat on the floor with us and did Arie’s exam. He didn’t rush us out and asked if all our questions were asked and answered. I felt like I let out a huge sigh of relief. It has been a stressful, emotional, and exhausting month. Thank you Homey Gnome staff for the care, compassion and attentiveness you showed Arie and I! We will be back and we will spread the word!

It was very hard to initially find a go-to vet when I got my puppy but I finally found Homey Gnome and I’ve had a great experience with them. We’ve never had any issues and the prices for everything seem to be pretty reasonable. Their staff always take really good care of Ash and are very kind and knowledgeable to a point where his tail wags when he walks in and seems to actually enjoy going to the vet (sometimes lol). If you’re in the cities looking for a vet give them a look!
