How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Love the location and the staff. All three of our dogs go and they take great care of our dogs. I have never felt that they glance over concerns and will assist in giving me options for items such as allergy meds for my dog and not pushing for the most expensive option! They take great pride in the service and care since I’ve been taking my newest dog. My three happy banfield dogs.

They took great care of my cats. I came in suspecting that one of them was diabetic. The vet tech listened to my concerns and took them seriously. It was confirmed with a blood test. The Veterinarian was emphatic and helped me make an informed decision about his treatment plan. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my pets.

This Banfield team is incredible! My black lab was very sick last year, resulting in two unrelated emergency surgeries. The team helped me navigate a stressful and scary situation and went above and beyond with her care. She's living her best life as a spoiled pup thanks to this team and their dedication to her health. Additionally, I had to say goodbye to my German Shepard last year in a sudden manner. It wasn't completely unexpected, but I was unprepared when it was time. This team rapidly coordinated a euthanasia while I was falling to pieces. They were compassionate and gentle, and though it was so hard to say goodbye, I know it was easier because of the care and compassion of the team here at Maple Grove. I will always come to this team to have my pets treated by the best. Thank you, Maple Grove Banfield Team!

Was a client for 5 years and have many horror stories from Banfield in Maple Grove and Plymouth MN. We had 2 cats on plans there and they were unable to keep them strait. Terrible record keeping let to numerous instances of incorrect records being applied to the wrong pet. Often records would appear for our cats that weren't theirs. We got tired of trying to correct records that were leading to treatment on the wrong cat or appointments that had already happened. Not going to go into details but after a surgery on one of our cats the wound reopened, so we took our cat back to Banfield in Plymouth and they took out a surgical stapler and stapled the wound shut right there. No pain killers or any prep, just stapled it shut and handed our cat back to us... If you can afford it, don't send your pets to Banfield.

Had a great experience with Banfield. I was looking to switch vet clinics for my fur baby after experiencing some issues with our previous vet clinic. Banfield was kind, informative and helpful with resolving my fur baby’s problems. Aly was kind and helpful on getting us an appointment as quickly as possible. Megan was super kind and friendly with helping check in my nervous puppy. And Dr Huettl was able to help us fix the problem and gave some tips for future preventative care! I will definitely be bringing my pups back to the Maple Grove location! Highly recommended Dr Huettl!
