How to Save Money at La Crescent Animal Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have a mini schnauzer that is very difficult for grooming. She was banned from other grooming places for being difficult. I found at La Crescent that they were able to handle my mini schnauzer very well. I also was rold that my MS did great. At the same time they were able to treat an ear infection that she was having. All the staff is very friendly. They even took my Bella for a walk while I was on my way to pick her up. I had a great experience. Very recommended.

Super user friendly. We’ve lost 2 pets over the years due to sicknesses. Each time the levels of compassion were beyond compare. They are great at taking care of the lil critters for regular health checks too though. Easy to make appointments and they always have good advice when we call in and ask. We’ll keep using them for sure.

I used to take my cat Clara to the La Crescent Animal Care, and they took such great care of her. Because of her older age, she was losing weight and not acting like herself. They provided me with a lot of different options at help her, which did for a while. Late 2021, I had to put her down at the age of 18, but the amount of respect and empathy they showed I think really helped me through the process. I called them a couple weeks before and talked to someone at the desk about that having to be an option and they were so sincere talking me through that possibility, how the day would go, reminding me that I can pay ahead of time, so I would not have to pay afterwards. (I am so thankful she told me this by the way, because when you are dealing with loss, you don't think about it). The day we put her down, they treated her gently and gave us so much time to just process. After that loss, I moved to a town further away, but when I got a puppy, it wasn't really a choice to go anywhere else. Gaia, my puppy, loves the 30 minute drive to La Crescent, and frankly it is worth the drive. Gaia loves it there. I can get a little overprotective with my animals and over worried. So I admit, I call them often asking about issues. They have NEVER dismissed me. They have NEVER talked down on my concerns. They give me solid advice, and I put a lot of trust into them and will continue doing so. Thank you so much to the staff of La Crescent Animal Care! Pictured: Clara and Gaia

I chose this vet, and gladly drive further to get to their location, because they're one of the very few that offer emergency services. Unfortunately I had to use that service as well (dogs can sometimes get Lyme's even with the vaccination!), but fortunately the vet was able to get his very high temp down and got him on antibiotics. He's a happy 11 year old pup again.

La Crescent Animal Care has always taken amazing care of our dog! We typically only have to visit for her annual check up, but they are always there for us when we've needed care between appointments too! I recommend La Crescent to anyone needing support for their furry family members.
