How to Save Money at Glacial Ridge Veterinary Clinic P.A.
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I absolutely love this vet! The staff are extremely nice and know what they are doing. Everyone I encountered genuinely wanted the best care for my dog. It is so refreshing to receive care that feels personal and not transactional.

My cat got sick suddenly. They got me in, although they were busy. They kept me informed on what was going on. They were professional and empathetic at the same time. I have never had a bad experience there, through the lives and passing of several animal companions. My cat is still with me, thanks to them.

The ENTIRE staff are wonderful. I was referred to Dr. Jean by my wonderful breeder when my baby girl tore her ACL. After seeing local vets in my area, I just wasn't convinced that they were doing what's in the best interest of my dog. I wasn't confident that my local vets were well versed in Bernese Mountain Dogs and I didn't want to take a chance and hurt her more. Not to mention their prices were downright asinine. Mind you, I have an older dog, but I'll gladly pay to give her the care she needs. This just seemed excessive for something that they admitted would have a low success rate. So, instead I drove two hours to Glacial Ridge to see Dr. Jean. Right away it was clear that EVERYONE loves animals and take the utmost care while your dog is with them. Dr. Jean is extremely knowledgeable, thorough, honest, and thoughtful in the care she provides. She knows that each dog is different and care needs to be personalized for their unique situation. She tries the least invasive and less stressful approach that will maximize results. I'm so incredibly grateful that Shannon referred me to Dr. Jean and I'll gladly make the drive a thousand times. Thank you so much, I was starting to feel hopeless but now I know we're in good hands.

It’s hard for me to put into words how much I appreciate Dr. Jean and every single one of the people I have met who work at Glacial Ridge. They all go above and beyond. They greet us like we’re old friends. They treat my dog like he is their own. My dog’s health was rapidly declining when we started coming to Glacial Ridge about 4 years ago. He’s doing terrific and acts like a puppy thanks to the specialized treatment he receives from Dr. Jean. It is truly amazing.

Recently our cat got very sick and needed attention asap. The only place that was available to take him was Glacial Ridge. They did a great job making him better and keeping us updated during the entire process. However... We were given an estimate of $1,700-$2,000... Which alone is quite a bit of $$. When we went to pick up our cat we had a bill of $3,100... They didn't seem to care that the bill was much higher than we were told... We love our cat dearly but for $3,100 we would of considered putting him to sleep. Especially since he will more than likely have issues his entire life... Great place and very nice people but adding on that kind of money is unacceptable... They should of explained everything more clearly and given us options if it was going to cost that much $$.
