How to Save Money at WellHaven Pet Health Urgent Care of Bloomington

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I've waited 2 years to write this review. I had to put my beloved dog down yesterday because of the incompetence of one of your vets. I was on your wellness plan and trusted you fully. 2 years ago I took my dog in for a small lump on his rear end. Within 10 minutes of being taken in, I was told it was a bruise that would clear up in the coming months with the vet implying I hit my dog. I would obviously never do this but figured maybe he bumped it when I wasn't home and trusted you despite my gut telling me you were wrong. I don't know if it was because the testing would be covered by my plan and cost you guys money or what. 4 months later I had moved away from MN and had to take him for an unrelated matter. While that was being resolved, I was told they wanted to check the lump. It was a cancerous tumor that had now grown into the muscle itself, and that it was now too deep to remove. I asked if it had been tested months earlier would it have been easy to remove, and the vet not wanting to throw you under the bus said he didn't know for sure but it was likely. They gave him a year, and I got an extra 5 months on top of that. Now I am thousands of dollars in debt from the vet bills and my dog was taken from me far earlier than he should have been. I will never forgive you for this, when a owner comes to you with an issue don't dismiss it for any reason and take the time to check. If I could give you 0 stars I would.

Colette was amazing. Highly recommend. Sadly found out our cat was very ill. However she was so compassionate and came to a diagnoses right away. If you are worries at all about your bet this is a must go! Thanks again for a great experience! Just wish the news was better but you guys were amazing!

I can’t begin to express the level or gratitude I have for our experience with the WellHaven staff. We found out our cat of 11 years was suffering from cancer and would need to be laid to rest. While the entire ordeal was a challenge for our family, WellHaven’s staff was beautifully equipped to help meet our family’s care and emotional needs. Everyone was so kind and empathetic (from the receptionist all the way to the doctor); almost as if they were experiencing the loss and grief with us. It’s really special to have people like that in your corner when navigating such a difficult time.

Had a extremely long wait and the vet just seemed like she wanted to milk us for more money when we told her we couldent afford there most expensive treatments. They guy at the front counter was extremely rude to us when we asked for the bill to leave and go to a different vet the next day.

Great experience at WellHaven! They were able to see our dog on the 4th when most other places were closed. Staff was friendly and kept us in the loop on what was happening through some short waits. The costs were very reasonable, comparable to a regular vet visit.
