How to Save Money at Alexandrias Animal Doctor
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

IF YOU HAVE A RABBIT DO NOT BRING THEM HERE last year i brought my rabbit ronald to this vet. she had started going into what i thought was gi-stais. obviously i was quite worried because gi-statis is very serious. first they brought her to the back without us and did a “microscope” of her poop (which i seriously doubt they actually did) and told us she had coccidia and set us home with antibiotics.(you don’t need antibiotics for parasites.) she never got better and her uterus about two days later prolapsed and we had to rush her to the fargo emergency vet, and after $1,200 and three failed surgery’s we had to put her down. and at the emergency vet they confirmed she in fact never had coccidia. if they had actually put time into her care and after i did further research they should of at least prescribed something completely different for her gi-statis. how dare they claim they take in small animals like rabbits and not care about their real care. now i am stuck with debt and am still completely heartbroken after all this time. i am completely devastated and disgusted to this day. so please if you love and care for your rabbits NEVER come here.

I am so grateful for this place! I have hedgehogs and when 1 had an issue, I was relieved that there was someone local who would treat him. All the staff was so kind and helpful.

Have had good experiences here, not sure what others are saying about being "fee oriented", most vets in town are. I needed a neuter on a Bengal cat (there are some sensativity issues with this breed to anesthesia), Dr kraker had experience with this breed. Plus this was the ONLY vet clinic that would give me a FIRM price on the neuter. (Seriously call around and ask, you'll find out what I mean!) I was on a strict budget at that time and didn't need Any "surprise" fees. Bengals are also not the nicest when out of their element, they handeled him very well. On A different visit, my other Bengal got into some human prescription meds that we dropped on the floor and could not find... he was so "out of it" when I found him, rushed him in, Dr kraker came back from an out of town call and started treating him immediately. Took him home with him that night to continue treatment all night long.... my cat is fine BTW.... no ill effects or damage. I felt he went above and beyond for my cat. It was expensive, I expected that -but not out of line by any means.

Dr. Kraker, Jill, and all his staff have always treated us well and gotten our dogs in quickly whenever an emergency arises. I am so thankful to have them in our community. While some reviews say they are expensive, they always are caring, respectful, quick for emergencies, fast call backs, etc. That is all worth it to me. I don’t believe their prices are much different than other vets in Alexandria (maybe compared to rural vets they are a bit more). We will continue with them as I have never had any problems; from our recent tumor surgery down to basic shots and nail trims.

Great Docs and nurses. They treated my dog with love and kindness. They are more affordable than some other places in town with the high price treatment still. I love this place and would definitely recommend it. Our pooch also seems to love it there. Thanks for a great service.
