How to Save Money at Wilson Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Rip is the runt of his litter and weighed 17 ounces at six weeks old. His two sisters were three times bigger than him and he was not getting enough to eat so I brought him home. He had his first kitten injection at our vet on September 25th and was wormed. On September 28 we were at Hope College in Holland, Michigan watching the Pull when he started having trouble breathing and wouldn’t eat. Our vet called a prescription into Meijer’s for him and he started to get better the next day. Two days later he was congested again and we were told to double the antibiotic. We did and that worked for another two days. Rip got really sick and congested on Thursday night and our vet suggested we take him to Wilson’s. It was the BEST decision we could have made. We spent several hours there and Rip had x-rays and lots of blood work. He had a nebulizer treatment and was given a nose drop and a children’s chest congestion medicine we could order online from Walgreen’s and have the next day. He has been back for his breathing treatment for four days and he is doing so much better! Rip had two vets check him out and they worked wonders. He was wormed again and given lots of medical help. The techs and receptionists are wonderful with him and he is well spoiled there! I can never thank the vets enough for their explanations and encouragement on his illness. They saved my sanity as Rip has become a spoiled and much loved member of our family. We LOVE Wilson Veterinary Hospital and are happy to be part of their family now! The 24 hour emergency is a wonderful security factor for us as we now know we can be seen at any hour for any problem! Our whole family appreciates the excellent care Rip is getting!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Marcia, Rip and the whole family

We were referred to Wilson veterinary Hospital, which was an hour and a half drive from our home because the one closest to us turned us away. They were too busy and the doctor was leaving for the holiday. We drove out there and I’d asked a few friends in Washington area if they knew of them, they said yes they had recommended them. I called. I didn’t want to be turned away once I got there. They said it would be Several hours until I would be able to be seen and If I chose to come they wouldn’t turn me away a few hours and they got us in. They were terrific. The staff is wonderful. Dr. Matt was terrific and the price was very fair. I highly recommend. They took care of our Marley very well!

Hi I just want to say THANK YOU!!! You all were amazing. Arrow was brought to you Tuesday morning around 12:30am. July 2 We had him at blue pearls.( 4 hrs.) And Arrow needed surgery ( blue pearl had NO Surgeon on call). So they sent us to you. Wow. What amazing job you all did from the time we walked through the doors. Took arrow back got him comfortable. Let us know what was going on every minute. They got us a room. Arrow was stable. Dr came in and explained everything that needed to be done. explained the procedure. Everything was going well. Till a couple critical emergencies came in. Arrow was critical, but was stable. So we had to wait for surgery. But it was understandable. They took arrow back to get him prepped and comfortable. We left around 4-4:30 am.( the longest night ever). He had surgery at 5:30am Dr called me at 7:30am with an update. Surgery went well. It took about an hour. And she informed me that she had found a piece of corn cob. We had no idea that arrow Had even ate it. The weird thing is 3 to 4 weeks prior to this event his brother Bow Got in the garbage and got the corn cobs we knew he ate them. So this piece of corn cob had been in this poor babies, tummy and intestines for 3 to 4 weeks. Arrow had to stay in the hospital for a day and a half. We got to bring him home on Wednesday, July 3. He’s home and doing very well. Again, the staff, the doctors, everyone that was there that helped arrow and us feel very at ease about the situation. and when we went to pick up arrow to pay for the final bill, I was shocking we got a refund!!!!! That was a big surprise!!!! I hardly Recommend that if your pet has to be taken to an emergency facility take them to Wilson’s. They were wonderful!!!! Arrow is a tripod. That’s have said to us that he is a fight biter. Don’t know why he’s never bit anybody. I’m thinking he’s just scared. He was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his foot two days after birth. His foot fell off. I decided to rescue him, but the truth of the matter is he rescued me !!!! Two years ago, our son 34 years old decided to take his life. An arrow has been my rock so again to all the staff and Doctors at Wilson’s vet Hospital . Thank you for saving my baby I would be lost without him. The Fischer family.

I love this hospital. My dog missy received the most dignified treatment as her time came. Everyone was so compassionate and caring. I left her knowing she would be taken care of. This last visit my adopted dog sparky was handled so carefully and his treatment worked within a half hour. Everyone was so knowledgeable and understanding. I highly recommend this hospital if you have an emergency. They are 👍👍👍😃😃😃
