How to Save Money at Dandy Acres Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I never write reviews, but I have to rave about Dandy Acres. They are so wonderful, accommodating, and compassionate that I've continued going there after moving 45 minutes away. My dog loves them so much that she literally drags me into the building when we visit. My dog recently needed exploratory surgery, and they have been so kind and attentive. They promptly helped her when she wasn't even on their schedule and have checked in on her recovery even when they were closed. What has otherwise been a very stressful situation has only been tolerable because of their care.

My girl, Bailey ( Yorkie, age 11 years 10 months ) has been coming to Dandy Acres for approximately 6 years . From the front desk staff ( Roxanne) to the Nurses and Assistants and of course the Doctors, has always been a positive experience. Bailey has had 2 emergency situations in the last 6 years and they had me bring her in same day, usually within an hour or two. Lobby is always clean and fresh smelling. Exam rooms are clean. They are very helpful with explaining the treatments and pricing. Someone always call the next day to check on my girl and make sure she’s doing well. When she had dental work done , they called me every step of the way to let me know how she was doing. I no longer live close by , but I still continue to take Bailey here. Prices are comparable to other local Veterinarians and they have helped me with a payment plan when I needed it. The staff really loves animals and it shows. I truly appreciate how they treat Bailey and I since day 1. Side Note: they also have a full service ultrasound Suite & offer Laser therapy

Dandy acres is a place with amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable caring staff I experienced this from the second i walked in the door. My dog was in for routine vaccine shots. My dog in the past has had a problem with reactions so the staff asked me to stay about 20 min after to verify that no immediate reactions occur. As soon as my dog left the examination room staff were disinfecting the room for the next dog. This is a place that I TRUST! They care.

I’ve brought my dog here for the last 3 years. The care is very good; the staff is friendly and helpful. I can usually get an appointment the same day which is awesome. I don’t get medications here for my dog. The markup is ridiculous! No one could afford taking care of their dog buying meds at the hospital. Check your prices at Costco and Chewy before you buy them here.

As long as they make fast cash they help you. But if you ask for a favor they won’t make any money on, in our case a refill for an ointment, they WILL let you down. Money is more important than the wellbeing of an animal. That shouldn’t be the central idea of a vet. Reply to owner: Your reply doesn’t make any sense. You prescribed the ointment earlier this year without seeing Buddy as well, so don’t tell me anything about patient safety. Now we wanted to do the same thing. Before we found out that this is the best treatment, we had to spend hundreds of dollars at your place (having a doctors appointment, clipping the hair, putting him on oral antibiotics etc.) The treatment with the ointment (2-3 days with a little ointment on the affected area) is much safer then anything else. And much cheaper ($30 vs. $300). Do you want me to post a screenshot of the text you send me in which you told us that you will only prescribe it when we would have made doctors appointment. It’s fine that the doctors are paid salary or hourly but you loose a lot of money if a owner can treat his dog without seeing a vet. And since you always prescribed it in the past, it is the right treatment. So of course it has to do with money if you decline it…. The dermatologist didn’t prescribe because the first prescription was from Dandy acres.
