How to Save Money at Willowood Acres Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I have used this vet since I got my Newfoundland and they have been great!! Then I bought a kitten who was ill and they were able to fit me in the next day to help him. I'm reading some of these other reviews and they just aren't fair! The vets are great and attentive, the front desk has ALWAYS been friendly as well! As for wait times, sure sometimes it takes longer, they are working on live animals which makes timing impossible to forsee! I'll continue going here for as long as I have animals! Thank you Dr's for being there for the pets!

It was a sad occasion having to say goodbye to Delilah after 16 years but the staff at Willowood was so helpful and compassionate.

There are nice at the desk. I have only had two small issues which would be petty if I mention them. Boarding is good as well, I ask for a request and they allowed me to do what I requested, I was so appreciative. Try them out if you are thinking about it.

We have used this vet for our 11 month old dog since we got her as an 8 week old puppy. Everything has always been the basics, such as shots, check-ups and prescriptions. I have been told on a few visits that my wait would be a little longer because they've had several 'emergencies' on those particular days. We were always understanding because we would expect the same care should we ever be in that situation. Today I did call with such an emergency and was told that they wouldn't be willing to help me because it's almost 5:30 and they close at 6:00 and that they are in fact NOT an emergency vet. I don't know how I waited for emergencies during my previous appointments (must've just been an excuse) nor do I understand how they can advertise as an emergency vet. What's even more fascinating is that they are supposed to be my primary vet! I could've been there in 10 minutes (20 minutes before they close) but they didn't even ask. Not to mention that they are way more expensive than just about any other place around! Do yourself a favor and find a vet that will give your pet the care they deserve and save yourself a ton of money while you're at it.

After 7 years of bringing my cat here for care, I've finally switched. On my most recent visit my cat needed her teeth cleaned, but sadly Willowood no longer has a dentist on staff, and they referred me to 3 distant vets (Farmington, Ann Arbor, Rochester) who quoted me over $1400 to $1800 for the cleaning and couldn't get me in until April. When I asked if there wasn't a nearer dentist they said 'you should stick with these, they're the best.' A friend referred me to her vet in Flat Rock who got us in that week for the cleaning, were wonderful, caring vets, and did an excellent job for a reasonable price. From now on I will go to the Flat Rock vet for all care. Willowood used to be fine but has really declined in the past couple years. After finally (since Covid) allowing 1 person to go inside with your pet, they still seem to frown on it and encourage you do drop them curbside. Even if you can get an appointment to go inside, you must wait in your car until they meet you at the door and escort you directly to the exam room. Checkout/payment is all done in the exam room too. The vet techs are sweet and friendly, but the vet we saw last time seemed stern and grumpy.
