How to Save Money at M-20 Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can not say enough good things about this vet clinic. I had a kitten break his hind femur, 1 vet wouldn't splint, or amputate the leg. Only wanted to do a $2k surgery and let me leave with no plan in tears. The other 15 vets i called either wouldn't help without their own xrays, or just as much money. The staff at M20 Animal Hospital were so kind and compassionate trying to help me find a solution that was more financially feasible for us. I will be taking all 3 of my cats to them from now on. In my time of desperation and need they didn't take advantage of the situation and truly cared! So if you're looking for a vet clinic that will truly love and take care of your animals I'd 1000x over recommend them. ♥️

Called at least ten other vets after my cat’s fever spiked to 106. Was told by every single one they couldn’t see her cause she wasn’t an established patient. Not only did M-20 agree to see her as a new client, but the entire staff was kind, compassionate and caring. What started out as a very scary and hopeless experience was subdued by the calm and thoughtful demeanor of all the staff and Dr. Tessa Peterson. While in the waiting room I heard multiple other incoming calls of other owners in the same situation and unable to get in with their regular vets. I heard them accommodate multiple new patients on a Friday with thoughtful empathy. I could not recommend more, hands down best facility and staff. Update: Even though kitty was sent home with what was still a significant fever (104), she immediately ate when she got home and went outside to roam for a bit, which she had been too lethargic to do for days. When she came back in later, her temp was just below 100 and she was back to her scratch pad and kitty condo. She snuggled with my daughter all night and woke up with a beautiful 101 temp today. The treatment she was given all day admitted definitely kicked the virus that was making her so sick. They sent us home with fluids and antibiotics which we will continue, but the vet also recognized that treatment at home was best as she was stabilizing. She didn’t charge me for an ultrasound she performed in trying to determine the cause of her high fever and I felt that they acted thoroughly but didn’t just perform services to add extra charges to my bill. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. Every staff member I encountered was so kind and compassionate and patient. They deserve all the praise for dealing with panicked and stressed pet parents such as myself with beautiful bedside manner. Best ER vet experience I’ve ever had.

Everyone is extremely helpful and very nice. My poor boy was throwing up after his surgery and i was worried so i called them and they let me come back even though they were closing/closed for one last shot of anti nausea medicine and sent me with some canned food and more medicine for him. I couldn’t say one bad thing about them if i tried! Thank you all for your kindness towards me and my dog!

Everything about my interactions with this clinc has been wonderful. After calling around to 4 other clinics, their staff dug deeper into the situation instead of just telling me no or there will be a long time before you can get your animal in. After explaining my situation, they set me up with their earliest appointment and explained I could also do a emergency visit if I needed to and explained how much it would be. When it came to the actual appointment, they stayed open for me way passed close so I had enough time to say goodbye to my sweet girl. Not once did I feel pressured to leave or hurried in any way. When I was ready, I got to hold my girl as she crossed over. Their staff is amazing and despite the terrible situation I was in, I am continuously speaking highly of the M-20 team. Thank you.

Our dog was 13 years old and had a stroke. He couldn't see, eat, walk or relieve himself. He was suffering and we had to make that heart breaking decision. I called every single place but M20 only because they were the furthest from me. Every place I called said they were booked and couldn't help us for at least a week. I called M20 and I don't recall the person I spoke with but when I told her what was happening I could hear the compassion in her voice and she said "we are 100% booked but give me just a minute I'll find a place to fit you in" She got us an appt for the following morning. That same night our dog passed just hours before our appt. I called M20 in the morning to cancel the appt and the same person mentioned our dog by name and told me how sorry she was. Two days later I got a card in the mail from the clinic with their condolences and some Forget Me Not flower seeds. We have never been in their office, we have never paid them one penny for any service. I spoke with one person for a combined 3 minutes between our two phone conversations and their care for a member of our family has blown us away. If ever we are in need for anything ever again they will be our ONLY call.
