How to Save Money at Dix Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can't express how grateful I am for the staff at this office. My dog Whiskey had a mass removal six weeks ago and the care she received was above and beyond what I expected. She had to stay over night and I was so anxious about it. Her vet tech called me first thing in the morning just to reassure me she was doing well because she knew I was worried about her. After her surgery, she had to come in for new bandages every 5 days. They are always very sweet with her and know her by name when she walks in the door. They always let me know how she was healing and when she no longer needed a splint, her vet tech that day was so excited to tell me. I can tell this staff truly cares for the animals they provide services for. She's unfortunately had some new health issues since her surgery and they continue to be fantastic through figuring things out. I've primarily worked with Dr. Rehman and he's been amazing. He's very thorough and personable. I'm consistently impressed with every staff member I interact with. Everyone is very friendly and so helpful despite the daily chaos that can happen in a business involving animals. I appreciate them so much and I'll speak highly of the practice and refer anyone looking for a vet to them.

I had to make an emergency visit to the veterinarian's office, because I thought my chihuahua broke his front leg, I could not get him in to the normal office he goes to. We had to wait a little while, but I expected that. The staff we're all very nice and treated my boy very good. We've seen the male doctor there. He did x-rays. He made sure my boy was okay. He gave him a pain shot, and sent him home with pain meds, he was very thorough going over the x-rays with me. He seemed like a vary nice veterinarian that cares about the animals. My experience there was a positive one.

Thank you for accommodating my work schedule and being open on Sunday. My kitty Juno appreciates it! They had us wait in the car which was great for Juno not to be stressed by other pets in the waiting room. The wait wasn’t bad either. We waited about 15 mins for them to prepare a room. Staff was kind and did not try to push any unnecessary tests. The vet was professional and straight to the point. Answered every question that I had. Sent her home with antibiotics and also prescribed an immune booster to help fight any future respiratory issues. The price was exactly in my budget! Thanks again! ❤️

This place is good for pets the techs n vet are very friendly here very good with your pets make them feel welcomed. One thing is I wish the desk would say hello or acknowledge when you walk in. I've been here a few times and they never do not saying they're rude they seem friendly enough and do their jobs well.

I'm traveling from Florida back home to Michigan to visit family members here and my pup Butter Bean of 6 months needed to be spayed. I saw Dix Animal hospital on my way to my mom's house. Decided to stop by. They were very friendly. I told them the situation that I needed to have her spayed because I was gonna be here for quite a while. They gave me appointment for the following Thursday. Met the Vet and his assistant. They gave me a call when she was done to let me know how she did. I picked her up later that day. Sue was the assistant that gave me her follow up instructions and medication. They gave me a follow up call on Friday the day after her surgery to see how she was doing. Yeah, this was a very good experience for me. Most definitely will be using them when I'm ever here back in the Michigan area if needed. Emily was awesome as well as the other staff members. I checked their reviews and they had great reviews. Thanks
