How to Save Money at Blackman Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This veterinarian may have been good at one time not anymore . My Labrador "Ted" was seen wensday sept 4th 2024 by jason, had his pain pills refilled because he is alittle sore in his back end. On sept 6th i called there office because my buddy Ted was having trouble breathing and was just not moving . The receptionist Debbie says to me we only take by appointment. Mind you this is the only vet my dog Ted see's . Debbie says i will leave a message for jason ,1.5 hrs later .....Debbie calls me back and i am expressing great concern that he needs to come in . Debbie says "jason says he just has a tummy ache from his medication and should be ok over the weekend. I expressed once again that there is something terribly wrong ,she became rude in her tone of voice and says jason will call you after hours ,i told her he wont make it .jason never called and i rushed him to a 24hr emergency ,he died when i laid him down on the gurney. Over 20 plus years of Blackman being my veterinarian clinic, intrusting them with my boy .NEVER WILL I TAKE ANOTHER ANIMAL OR A RECOMMENDATION....... How can jason diagnose my best friend over the phone and not even call or even say they were sorry............i call him jason because he sure isn't a doctor . You sighned up for the wrong job jason......you left me when we needed you the most or Dr.Christy.. TO BAD DR.PAT HAD TO RETIRE BECAUSE JASON HAS ALOT TO LEARN .

For the most part we've always had good care here. Yesterday I called about my cat and was told to keep her contained in one room and quiet because she had injured her front paws. I was told by Gabby to call between 7:50 - 10 this morning about a drop off appointment. I called at 9:45 talked to Debbie who said they NEVER tell anyone to call between those times. I replied I'm sorry I'm just doing what I was told. She also said it was not down for my cat to come in for a drop off appointment. Why would I just make this up? I was told to call back on Wednesday or Thursday at 7:30. I've been bringing my cats here for nearly 20 years and have never gotten such a run around as this time. Not sure what the problem is now. But in the meantime my cat is suffering.

Jackie has been going to Blackman Animal clinic since he was just a little guy. They always take good care of him and make sure he and we have everything he needs. Jackie has anxious detachment and recently had a seizure. His vet told us exactly what to do. He sour special boy and we trust his doctor implicitly.

I am sad today. I have been going to blackman animal clinic for over 30 years and have always had excellent service and vet care for my pets. I have been taking my pets there ever since i moved to Jackson in 1989. I have always been more than happy with the care and treatment my pets have received and i have highly recommended blackman animal clinic to anyone who was looking for a vet. Today i called to make an appointment for my cat to update her rabies shot. My cat is six years old and she has gone to this vet since she was 4 weeks old. The person who answered the phone informed me that, since i have not been there since 2022, i am no longer a customer and my cat is no longer a patient. I said “Are you telling me that, even though i have been a loyal customer for over 30 years, and my cat is a current patient, that i no longer have a vet?” Their answer was “I don't know your history but that is our policy.” So matter of fact and so cold. I am saddened and frustrated, and feel very screwed over. I have trusted this vet for so many years. Now i guess i am looking for a new vet, hopefully one that doesn't hang their loyal customers out to dry. 😢

We have had such a wonderful experience at Blackman animal clinic! We had an emergency with our cat and our prior vet couldn’t get him in for weeks. I called Blackman and they got him in immediately and saved us a trip to an emergency vet. We then switched our dog there as well. We were treated with amazing service and Dr Gorczyca was great and was very interactive with my kids as well. She has a true passion for animals. Highly recommend!
