How to Save Money at Red Barn Veterinary Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love Red Barn Veterinary Clinic & have been coming to them for years. They always return my calls right away & I’m always able to get an appointment quickly. The staff is great & very helpful but I have to say Dr. G is my favorite. I also love that I never feel judged or lectured & they are really good & thorough at going through all possible options, weighing each of the pros & cons for each. I recommend them to everyone.

I am so happy to have found this place. I googled some vets and visited here because it had good reviews. I can't say enough about this place: service, price and quality. There was absolutely no wait to be seen, the facilities were immaculate and clean, the vet (Dr. Freid) was super friendly and spent a great deal of time with me going over my kitty's issues. And on top of everything, this place probably charge me half of what my old vet would have. Friendly staff all around, would highly recommend!!!

Dr. Tracy Kreider

We went here for the last five years and left in this practice in 2022 and kept saying after three years that we needed to find another place .. the Doctor is GREAT..the staff at the time we went is not .. they can be very rude and short when you call. Not just one or two times... regularly when we called. We changed veterinarians to Howell Animal hospital, where in one visit the Dr. was able to help our dogs in other ways than just a routine check where little to no other options / advice was provided. At one time there was another vet there besides the owner who never ever ever looked at you... they talked to the floor or wall or otherwise... not good at all when you're dealing with people everyday... Horrible experience I believe there's a reason why you see 15% off new patients on the sign almost all the time. *** update after owner replied below... FIRST, I didn't "repost a review" I don't even know if that's possible... what I did do is remove a portion of it and that must of updated the date we went there. I didn't " ridicule anyone. I expressed the experience in which and how I was treated AT THE TIME I WAS PRESENT by both the staff when I called and was there present in - person multiple times, as noted and how I had an experienced with someone that LITERALLY never looked at me at all during the ENTIRE time I was in the room. Again, not ridicule but facts and the experience... IF THINGS HAVE CHANGED, THAT'S WONDERFUL and WISH YOU ALL THE BEST ... Reviews are meant to be for others to see what you experienced during your time in an establishment.... I try to find the positive in the negative and that was the owner... with over 40 million views of my total reviews now, ONLY a few even have ANY negative things in them and less than 10 of all my reviews are a one star. Initially - your review was a 5 STAR WHEN I FIRST WENT. THEN I CHANGED IT after the experiences I had. I wish you the very best in your business and all the animals you and your practice will see and help.
