How to Save Money at Plymouth Road Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I bring both my cat and dog here. The new location is beautiful. I don’t stick with just one provider ,because I book based upon my schedule. Yet every doctor we have seen has done a wonderful job making sure our needs are met while being compassionate and professional. Going to the vet is obviously not something either of them necessarily look forward to, but they are both are well behaved because the techs do an amazing job handling them. The office cats walking around are really just the cherry on top for me.❤️

I have been here multiple times and have always been happy. But especially today, I took my dog for a dental and couldn’t be happier. I’ve been having a lot of financial issues due to recent hospitalizations but I know I needed to get his dental done before it got worse. One of the employees named Victoria who I spoke to about this was incredibly understanding when I explained this, offered alternative payment methods, and was transparent with their pricing. The other staff were quick to answer any questions I had and great with communication before, during, and after the procedure. It also ended up being less than they quoted which was a huge relief! I recommend Plymouth to everyone I know, and I’m always happy with the level of care that my pets receive.

I cannot say enough about this office. I have never been to a vet that makes it so easy to care for my dog. After a few bad experiences at another clinic we started not going in to get routine care. Fast forward, my doggo is aging and now there is no choice. Came here because I was referred by a friend. Have not had one bad experience, matter of fact each visit has always exceeded my expectations. They are understanding, cooperative and better priced than the last vet. I highly recommend. Great vets, great front office staff, great techs!

My fur baby Max had to be put down due to being very sick. The vet tech and doctor were by our sides through the whole process. They talked us through everything. They gave us as much time as we needed saying goodbye and holding him after his passing. The room they have to have the last moment with your fur baby is very calming, quiet, comfortable as if you are sitting in beautiful livingroom. Honestly makes you forget where you are for few minutes when you are with your fur baby. They even take care of you after everything as well. We got the paw print and they sent a piece of his fur too. They sent a card telling us they were thinking of us and their condolences. This is the place to be for yearly check ups. When your baby is sick or injury. Or when you have to deal with the hard part of your fur baby's life. They truly care for your pet and is willing to talk you through all options and help you understand everything. Thank you so much for taking care my baby.

Honestly the team they have here is the best! They are all so kind, compassionate and very helpful. They recently saved my cats life and myself and my family cannot be more grateful. They are truly amazing.
