How to Save Money at Animal Clinic East

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I know that you think because they're on 8 Mile in Detroit, you may question this hospital. I can testify that the doctor is fantastic they are very reasonably priced, and they don't do things to your pet unless they have to with a non-invasive approach. They don't run up a huge bill, and they do not give you bad advice and do things to your pet unnecessarily for profit. I trust them to do the right thing for my 16 year old 4 lb Pomeranian Chanel. I would never take her anywhere else. I am so blessed to be able to take her to someone who truly cares. I highly recommend this animal clinic to everyone.

Highly recommend not using this facility for a number of reasons. For one the staff is very unprofessional and rude. They never called and got previous records like they said they would. Input all contact information incorrect and still haven't updated it correctly. We got 1 of our dogs fixed there and it was a complete hack job. We never saw the vet so for all we know the tech did the surgery. Expressed these concerns with them and came in for a post surgery appointment for the vet to not be there again so later that night we had to take our dog to an emergency vet for infection. Photo is how we got our dog back the day of surgery.

Brought my puppy in for a broken paw. I was told he needed his ears cleaned cause they were a little dirty..... they gave him an ear infection so bad it caused lesions on his skin from the fluid leaking from them. Brought him back just for them to TRY TO LIE TO MY FACE, saying he already had an infection when he didn't. I wouldn't take a dead bug to be seen here!!! My puppy is fine now, thanks to talking to someone who worked at Pet Supplies Plus!!! She gave me a home remedy that cleared my dogs ears along with antibiotics in about 3 weeks. ZERO STARTS WOULD NOT EVER RECOMMEND!!! Luckily, I couldn't post NEGATIVE starts!!! (P.s only one of your staff members was kind. She was the one who talked to me when I came back 2 additional times)

I read ALL of the reviews and found them to be intriguing, to say the least. The good reviews outweighed the bad AND they had a same day appointment available, so we went in! The office staff was quite pleasant and accommodating. Dr. B evaluated and diagnosed Girly and offered a plan of treatment that included surgery. Which I graciously turned down and then he offered pain medication to make her comfortable. Girly, is our 14yo Chihuahua/Cocker Spaniel, she presented with a problem starting about a year ago. It didn’t cause her any discomfort, she ate normally, and she was her typical spunky self. However, as time went on, she wouldn’t allow us to touch or wash the area and “screamed” when you picked her up a certain way. More lately, she’s been sleeping a lot more and I find that she HAS to be near me. Dr. B confirmed my suspicions today, Girly has cancer. He offered to assist me with any further care she may need and prescribed pain medication to aide in her comfort. I’m a satisfied customer! Look beyond the reviews and remember WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT, everyone isn’t going to run their business the way YOU think they should, but how they’re comfortable doing so!
