How to Save Money at Uptown Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Uptown Veterinary Clinic staff was absolutely amazing when we had to say goodbye to our 15 year old lab, Talula. They explained everything and let our sweet girl stay on her bed in the back of our car so she could be outside in the sunshine. They gave us time for lots of hugs and tears, making such a painful experience as comfortable as possible. The staff was incredible! They also made sure Faithful Companion was there within minutes of us leaving to take her for cremation. We received a call the following morning saying she was back and ready to be taken home! Uptown Vet staff even washed her blanket and had it ready when we returned. I highly recommend Uptown Veterinary Clinic. We miss our "Lula" so much but the compassion and care they showed to us and Talula will never be forgotten.

I can't express enough how much I appreciate this clinic. Both Drs are incredibly patient and skilled with our aggressive dog and they were able to diagnose our cat with an illness three other vets missed. The entire staff is exceedingly kind and it is clear everyone there truly loves helping animals.

Dr Weinrick has changed our dogs lives for the better. Our old vet was not treating our 10yr old dogs correctly for years and we were getting increasingly frustrated as to why we couldn't figure out what was wrong with them. We switched to this clinic and turns out they both have a liver disease and they immediately got both of our dogs on the medications they needed with a long term treatment plan. My old vet could not diagnose them and also told me that one of my dogs couldn't be put under anesthesia to get her infected teeth pulled, so my poor girl was in pain for years. Dr Weinrick assured me that it was safe for my dog to be put under and was able to remove the infected teeth and relieve my sweet girls pain that she had been in for so long. The entire staff has given both my chronically ill dogs a chance at a longer life and we are forever grateful.

Our two cats both needed their shots. We took them in together, and one cat wasn't afraid at all. The other cat who is skittish was very nervous. The staff were loving, kind and well organized. They were very kind to the scared kitty so she was able to cope. They gave us a choice between 1 year shots and 2 year shots. The office was very clean and the reception area was friendly. There is a cat on staff who let us pet him and he was so cute! There was plenty of space in the waiting room and everything went well.

Best vet I have ever been to. The staff saw me carrying my cat and they hurried to open the door for me. The nurses and doctors are super kind and skilled. They have diagnosed and cured my cat Momo for two conditions over the years. The price is also better than some other vets in town.
