How to Save Money at Stadium Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The entire staff here is wonderful. Dr. Marissa has been amazing with our dog and her allergy issues, we've also seen Dr. Alison Vancouver and Dr. Maddy Erba and they are both great as well. All the vet techs are kind and helpful. Very affordable, cannot recommend more.

We took our beautiful and beloved Khaleesi to Stadium last week for her rainbow bridge appointment. She had a very rare adverse reaction to a treatment and then a series of incorrect diagnoses and treatments through two after-hour care areas. When we came to the understanding that she was not going to recover, we brought her in with the whole family at the very end of the day at Stadium. Dr. Megan made the time to meet with us (though we didn't have an evaluation appointment). She talked through the symptoms and the prior treatments. She confirmed the prognosis that our baby would not recover. And she listened. She listened while our youngest talked to her about our dog, what she was like, how we had treateed her, where we were not listened to... She confirmed each injection with us, ensuring the kids were prepared to watch or not watch, etc. She allowed us to be with our grief, not trying to soothe us or move us forward more quickly. She reflected a true compassionate stance. When we left the office, I looked at the time and realized we had kept her over her shift by a good deal. And yet-- she then emailed over the weekend to check in on US, how WE were doing with our grief. We have been bringing our pups to Stadium Veterinary since before the name change. 12 years now, maybe? (They used to be Affordable Vet.) It's possible we will NEVER go to an after-hours clinic again if we can help it.... Their entire team is caring and careful-- and BOTH of these qualities signal their excellence. Many thanks, Stadium Vet, and Dr. Megan especially.

We love this place! They have the best and most compassionate team at Stadium Vet. Over the years, we’ve had four dogs that have been treated with so much love and care. Everyone here is amazing. The vet techs are incredible as well. Our dogs usually see Dr. Maddy or Dr. Paul (who’s no longer there) but we also had an amazing experience with Dr. Alison, who kindly offered to chat with me and help. I wanted to mention that I recently moved away to pursue an MBA (but my dogs are still in Ann Arbor 😊) and wanted to gain some insights in the pet health industry. Dr. Alison was so kind and patient with my questions and offered the most helpful answers. We will always be grateful for this team! Thank you so much for your service for 15+ years!

Our 3 month old mini dachshund has been a patient at Stadium Veterinary Services now since we brought him home, a little over a month ago. Since then, we've been to SVS multiple times, and have had a lot of really quality interactions with the SVS team. Special shoutouts to Ashlee and Emily at the front desk (SO helpful, kind, and responsive) and Dr. Maddy and Dr. Erin- who were both very patient, thorough, and knowledgable. So far we've really been impressed with SVS, and we hope to be longterm patients. I find SVS to be very clean, organized, and caring- would definitely recommend.

Great local vet, very kind to my anxious pet, handled her with care. Would recommend for anyone looking for a vet that is good with scared kitties.
