How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I came in on a Monday morning with my kitty who had suddenly become sick over the weekend and stopped eating. Everyone from the front desk clerk, to the techs, to the vet was so kind and empathetic to me and my boy. It was one of the worst and scariest days of my life because I really thought I might have to put my cat to sleep. I wasn't able to afford hospitalization, so the next best thing was trying to keep him stable at home until I could get him to my regular vet for further testing. The staff gave as much supportive care to my cat as they could, and gave me as much information and training as possible. Thanks to that, I was able to keep my cat stable until the following morning, when my regular vet thankfully had a cancellation and got us in right away. My kitty is not yet out of the woods--he's still very ill and I don't know yet how this will all play out--but the Blue Pearl folks did their very best for us, and so I have been able to do my very best for my cat. Every extra day I can spend with him is a precious gift and I can't express my gratitude for the amazing care my cat received and the kindness I received as well. You are all angels in human form. 💕

We had to put down our sweet baby today. The people were so kind and so patient with us. They explained everything that was going to happen. Although we're deeply saddened, we're also immensely grateful to all of the people at Bluepearl for treating us and our kitty with compassion and respect. Thank you. I have to write a second review. BluePearl just sent us a personal sympathy card with employees' thoughts and signatures. It deeply touched our hearts. So thoughtful and kind. God bless all of you.

They saved my cat after he was struggling with a urinary blockage. A bit pricy, but they are very knowledgeable and did everything they could to take care of my kids' baby. I'm grateful for everything the team in Ann Arbor did for Toby! Toby hated his collar and tore it off in transit to the second location for his overnight stay, but otherwise he seemed fine with them too overall. ❤️

Sunday none of the vets in my area were open. My 5 year old cat, Kuzco, had a medical emergency. They accepted me as a walk in, and i drove over an hour to get him there but I am so glad I did. They took very good care of my baby, and were very professional and did not rush any procedure, and made sure top care was taken to get my fur baby unclogged. I am truly thankful for them, as if I had waited until Monday for a vet around here, he might not have made it.

I was upset I could not remain with my cat during examination. When examination did happen I could hear my cat came crying very loud. I opened the door of the room I was waiting in and asked if that was my cat and the lady said yes. My sadness turned to anger. When I checked out all I got was a receipt showing the medication and cost. No detail of the examination findings. I had to call and ask for them to email it to me. Not a great experience. I will the Doctor was knowledgeable and thorough.
