How to Save Money at Takoma Park Animal Clinic Primary Care (NON-Emergency)
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

***DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE*** I do not know what this place was like a year or more ago, but currently this is the WORST place to take your pets. We recently moved to the area and previously our 3 year old Chihuahua LOVED the vet. We went to this place because it was very close. After getting a small bump checked out on our dogs foot, they insisted on a biopsy and surgery without giving us any information on what would take place. We went to another vet for a second opinion, (to which they said the bump can be remedied with an epson salt bath, and it has helped tremendously) and after getting records transferred our new vet notified us that Takoma Park Animal Clinic PUT A MUZZLE ON OUR DOG WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION AND NEVER TOLD US. Our dog is not a biter, she has never bitten, and certainly hasn’t bitten any of their vets. I am beyond livid at finding this out, and this place desperately needs to be shut down. Additionally, we have been going here for about 6 months, and the head vet has changed about 2 or 3 times. Not a good sign.

Dr. Malachi is amazing. I trust her advice and care for our dog, Diva. When they see each other, they always treat each other like old friends. I am always pleased with our experience.

I am trying to relocate my pet to a place with a few pre-arrival steps and when I originally called, I was told they knew exactly how to get this done. When I showed up for the appointment, the staff kept asking me what I needed done, and eventually took my cat back and came out with a bill. The staff was supposed to schedule a follow up and then didn't. I then went and researched what needed to be requested another visit so we can continue with the test/vaccines, etc. Similarly, more tests were done, and another bill was created. Now, when I spoke to the receptionist, I was told 2 more visits are still required but they couldn't say what for. When I asked why this wasn't conveyed during the visits and what else is pending, the receptionist started saying I was harassing her. When I was asked to speak the vet, she repeated that that was harassment as well and put me on hold, eventually returning to say the vet will call me back. When I asked if I could get an email instead as I was in a different time zone, that too was declared harassment.

A wonderful place for veterinary care. The staff is friendly and welcoming. My only issue is the lack of parking in the area. Be prepared to walk a ways from your car to the vet's office.

Staff was rude when I tried calling multiple times to get information about my pets medical records. Not efficient at all with scheduling or making appointments. Vets do not have clear communication, even when asked directly for information regarding my pets visit. You are not allowed in the room during the examination. They require a $25 fee to receive your pets very own medical records. I’m not sure why they are so disrespectful and disorganized. I tried giving them multiple chances and different visits to see if maybe they were having an off week, but it was a horrible experience pretty much every single time. I would not recommend taking your animals here. There are better vets in the area to take your pets to.
