How to Save Money at Cozy Cats Vet -- A Cat Practice

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

LP/DR: Great encounters for many years. Had a blip during my cats passing that was disappointing to me but not detrimental to my overall experiences. I have been a customer at this vet practice for over 17 years with my cat. As I suspected and was the case, my cat needed to be euthanized and passed on 03.17.2023. While expected, it was a devastating day. Both the vet and vet tech were amazing, kind and empathetic to me and my cat. I was asked if I would like some fur and paw print sent to me as a keepsake, and said yes. About a week later, I was notified that I could pick up my cat's remains and when I arrived home, I realized I was missing his fur and paw print. I contacted Cozy Cats and was told by the office manager that they send out condolence cards with these items. She asked if I had received a condolence card from the practice. I shared that I had not. She said she would do a bit more digging and get back to me the next day. My next conversation with the practice manager was her sharing that she recalled doing a lot of condolences recently (but not mine in particular since there were many), had searched the office but did not find my fur and paw print and therefore felt it had been mailed and lost by the post office. While I was disheartened to not receive the fur and paw print of my cat of over 17 years, I understand mail does sometimes get lost. However, knowing that nothing was never received, I really expected to receive a follow up condolence card from Cozy Cats to make up for the one that never arrived. That did not happen. As a longtime customer, who has had nothing but positive experiences, I am was disappointed with the lack of follow-through and thoughtfulness of their own process during this last stage of my pet's life.

If you have a cat and just want a great place to get care you cannot do better. Being able to take my cat to a place where I don't have to worry about a dog being there is almost priceless for me. The vet techs and office staff are very personable and caring. The veterinarians are incredibly experienced with cat issues and have a calming presence about them that I highly appreciate. They don't overcharge for medicines and foods which is rare. Also their new location is beautiful.

I love this vet practice! The entire staff including receptionists, technicians, and the veterinarians are all wonderful and incredibly responsive. I have called to inquire about a concerning behavior our cat was exhibiting and received prompt advice back and have had no problem trying to schedule an appointment to bring them in. The office makes sure you have all of the information necessary to make an informed care decision for your animals and provides cost estimates beforehand. I have never felt nickel-and-dimed here (it helps that I have found their prices incredibly reasonable) and have never felt pressured to take a particular course of action like I have at other vet practices. The staff are fantastic with our cats in stressful situations and the staff's skill and care show in every interaction I have with them. Their new facility is also fantastic! If you have cats, this is the vet to bring them to!

Everyone in Silver Spring recommendations this vet, and for good reason! Dr. Levy is honest, upfront, and very knowledgeable. I take my dog to Silver Spring Animal Hospital (which is also great!) However, I like working with Dr. Levy as a provider who specializes in only cat care. The staff has always been so friendly, and the office is beautiful. Thank you Kristen and Diana at the front desk for a wonderful customer experience. And to the vet assistant who loves orange kitties :)

I appreciate that Dr. Levy is matter of fact. She is a true expert among cat vets. At this point I trust her without reservation. Sharon, the office manager, is incredibly warm and supportive. Kelly and Becca who work in reception are also very knowledgeable and warm. They’re all great, the facilities are great. 10/10
