How to Save Money at Veterinary Park Potomac
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They are fantastic! I have taken my puppy since his first checkup and they are wonderful all around. The vets and techs are all great with my pup and are extremely responsive and communicative. They always fit us in as needed and provide great care. My dog actually gets excited when we go there because they are all so great with him and make him feel so comfortable and relaxed, which is something very important to me. There is never a wait and they don't overbook. We are never in a full waiting room and they spend a lot of time with us for every appointment. Couldn't recommend more highly.

When my dog hurt her knee, Dr. Mari took amazing care of her! She got her in quickly and did a thorough evaluation. She called frequently with updates and even sent a cute picture to let us know our princess was doing well! Every step of the way, the Veterinary Park Potomac team treated our dog like their own. I can’t thank them enough for helping her to feel so much better!

I am floored at the attention to detail, passion, and level of care that Veterinary Park Potomac offers. Upon entry, it is impossible not to admire the clean and modern facility. The staff is very friendly. My 4 week old kittens, Oscar and Wilma, saw Dr. Katie who was able to address every one of our questions with ample information. We are raising kittens for the first time so we had lots of questions. Dr. Katie made sure to take her time with us and our kittens. Dr. Katie is clearly extremely passionate about what she does and every detail about her practice reflects just that. She showed compassion towards our kittens and ensured us she is determined to foster a life-long relationship with them. Another thing I appreciate about this practice is the open line of communication as well as the extensive care instructions they give. Also, they utilize an app called “PetsApp” which I am very excited to try in the future. Within 12 hours we received a heartwarming welcome email as well as *very* thorough discharge papers which included a plethora of reputable sources to read through. I truly have never loved a veterinary practice this much and I am *very* picky where my animals go. I treat trust and integrity very seriously and Dr. Katie has exceeded my expectations.

Absolutely the most caring, thoughtful and kind veterinary clinic around! They really make sure your pet has the most relaxing and pleasant experience. Besides being very knowledgeable on different breeds and their needs, they are fairly priced, they don't try to upsell unnecessary vaccines or procedures, and they take their time with you and your pet to make sure they are comfortable and that you have all your questions answered. The cat treats Churus were an amazing touch. That's all my cat focused on. It was the best experience I've ever had at a vet. Just look at how calm he was the entire time. :)

Dr. Katie and all the staff are fantastic! My dog Lola had a rough start to life as a street dog and was very scared of going to the vet when I first got her. Rather than just force her to go along with an exam like my previous vet did, Dr. Katie and her staff are all about making sure Lola is comfortable and that she sees going to the vet as a positive experience and not something to be afraid of. It's amazing to see the difference in her after going here for just a year. They also give great veterinary care and explain everything, give options, etc. All around amazing!
