How to Save Money at PERRING ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They were able to get me in quickly (I called 5 other Vets in the area and they were all not accepting new patients or were booked 1-2 weeks out.) The receptionist lady was super friendly, even called his prior vet to obtain records for me. When we arrived the reception/assistant and the Vet were both friendly and kind, and gentle with my Cat. The Visit and all his meds and such was very reasonable and I was there a full hour unrushed and felt comfortable with all the care instructions given. My cat purred for most the visit so he clearly felt comfortable as well. The outside of the building looks a little rough, but the inside was clean and well kept, so looks can be deceiving.

They gave wonderful service to our senior dog who was injured and needed surgery. Spike is recovering now and we hope it will lead to many more years of love together. Nobody likes the cost of medical care for pets or people, but when we can afford it, miracles happen.

Brought my dog due teeth pain, there was a gentlemen or doctor that seemed extremely afraid of my dog. He said he couldn’t check the teeth and instead drawed blood and took stool sample, he quickly gave me a bill of more than $400, I stated that I was there due my dog having teeth pain, he said he could not check the teeth without putting the dog to sleep. I told him that I have to take my dog somewhere else if he couldn’t check them , he stated that he couldn’t help me and I have a no show fee and that I have to pay on my way. Which was in accurate because I had called to cancelled an appointment. He was very unprofessional and showed a lack of compassion with my dog. He cared more about the fees and me paying for services I didn’t ask for nor does my dog need. Wasted time and money!

Doc is so nice and patient! Not only to the pet parents but also to the fur Babies. He complimented my girls Chai and Ginger so many times. They felt at ease with him even as he gave them little sticks with the needle. It was the least uncomfortable I’ve seen them at a vet. Hopefully I can bring them back here. I’m hoping for all the best in his business. He’s helping families with their babies and I really appreciate it. Thank you !

I’m leaving 2 stars …this place was a last chance resort I needed to get my dog into the groomers because unexpectedly she had fleas. Before we took her to the groomers she had to get a rabies vaccine( which I didn’t know of till last minute ) I was rushing around all day calling places left and right to try and find her an appt or a walk in visit and it ended up here. I was so greatful that they had the time until I got into the place and then decided to read some reviews. I will never take my dog here again. Personally I didn’t like the way that the dude was speaking to me about my dog and the way he handled her. The first thing he says to me when I walked in is “do she have flea “ I said yes this is why we are here to get her a rabies shot so she can get groomed tomorrow he proceeds to tell me that a flea bath or anything I do won’t do anything because the house is infested ( him assuming I’m bringing her back to the same place which i was not we were in the middle of a move and she was the beginning of the move to get her feeling nice again )later on with the visit he tells me that I’m wasting my money with anything that I put on to her and that I should get what she needs there which he said would be a steroid and a topical gel. I declined for the steroids because he wants to charge me over $250 for 6 pills. no thank you. He tried to talk me into buying the cheaper version but unfortunately I didn’t have the funds for all of that at that moment. He ended up talking me into getting the topical gel which later I realized they had it on Amazon for much cheaper. He kept repeating hisself to me acting like I wasn’t understanding him but I clearly was. He also assumed that I didn’t take care of my animals because she had fleas. I have a cat and a dog. And they are both free of fleas at a new home(WITH HER OWNERS ME AND MY OTHER HALF ). The whole visit was just terrible. The lady I spoke to on the phone to make the visit was very nice and super helpful and reassuring in so many ways. Thank you to the lovely lady that was on the phone with me . The place wasn’t put together very well and didn’t look sanitary. There was a bug napper on the ceiling and there was a lot of flies that were falling to the floor. It just looked busted in there. When someone else came in I understood that he didn’t want my dog around other animals but he rudely told me to go wait in the other room until this next pacient was in a room. The back of the place looked a mess and not organized at all. I had a bad experience and now I know why there’s a lot of bad reviews overall no I would not go there again but it was a last minute things that needed to be done. Also a lot of the bad reviews …. Whoever responds to these need to learn how to speak to people alittle better about honesty and not bash them because they didn’t like the service everyone is entitled to there own opinions on things. There was so much more but at that point I just wanted to get out of there.
