How to Save Money at Best Friends' Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The veterinarian was super nice and loved my ball pythons. The lobby is also really cool looking they have several fish tanks. They seem to really care a lot about the animals and live their work. Edit: This is one of the closest places near Frederick that accepts treatment on snakes. Also this veterinary office tries to make sure your animal is living in the right environment and gets the correct and needed nutrients or equipment. I might switch all my animals here even though it’s a long drive.

If you have any pet that you truly care about bring them here. This vet does not do anything without your knowledge and consent or more than they need to. They don't charge you an arm or a leg either. Not to mention, they were the only vet able and willing to see my crested gecko in an emergency when she was on death's door. I had gotten her from a friend and she was very unwell. She had a 10% chance to make it, but with their help she has pretty much fully recovered from a respiratory infection and several broken and worn down bones. I can't thank y'all enough!

This is a great place to bring your pets. They will be cared for- with the best kindness, competence and fairness. Dr. Victoria Hollifield has experience with exotic pets as well. I brought my pet mouse Bianca, that had a large scab in the perineum. They agreed to see us on a Saturday even though they had a very busy schedule! Bianca was supposed to have surgery to remove the mass, but the day of surgery Dr. Hollifield spent about an hour with me and with my mouse to determine whether Bianca was a good candidate for this surgery. She concluded that Bianca was not a good candidate, as she discovered that there was probably an abdominal mass/tumor while the scab was healing. Surgery was cancelled and Dr. Hollifield did not charge me for anything, even though she spent a lot of time with me and my pet on a very busy day and I insisted. This doctor really cares for animals, she is an excellent diagnostician and I trust her completely. She has experience with all animals. I have referred Dr. Hollifield to many of my friends. I recommend this practice completely and I will be going to see her for my other pets.

Love this vet and her staff! She incorporates conventional medicine with holistic, this is very important to me. My CKD cat’s blood work fluctuates. She says “ Let’s get these numbers down” as opposed to writing him off as just another cat declining with kidney disease. Staff are very sweet and “cat whisperers” as well as Dr. H. I am confident my baby is in good hands

Dr. Hollifield truly loves animals as well as her staff. She is knowledgeable and scientific about dogs as well as exotics. I have been very happy with the after hours responses about care for my new puppy. She also has all of the resources in house and can get labs back quickly. The staff is caring and kind to my pets and prompt to respond to prescription refills, pet concerns, and more! I highly recommend Best Friends!
