How to Save Money at Partner Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center - Frederick

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Fantastic experience here! My husband and our dog were attacked during a walk by a loose dog in our neighborhood at the beginning of April and our vet recommended that we get out pup to Partner. I called and they said they'd be ready for him. We arrived and they met us in the lobby to check his lungs and heart. They allowed us to do check in and then leave our dog with my brother while we my husband got medical attention. They surgically repaired a larger gash and cleaned the multiple punctures on his shoulder area. They had him on the way home with meds 5 hours after the attack happened. A few days later we had to return due to fluid building up below shoulder punctures. They placed a drain and again had him on the road home within 5 hours. One of the receptionist who was there the night of the initial injury even came back to ask my husband how he was doing. Communication was fabulous with the entire staff. Of course it is more expensive than our primary care vet but I would never expect emergency care to be the same cost. Happy to pay for quality, compassionate care and this is certainly that!

Highly recommend! I am so happy and relieved that Frederick County finally has a 24/7 amazing emergency vet that we can count on. Things unfortunately happen and I try to be prepared for the worst but for so long I feel like as a pet owner I did not know where to go in Frederick county if we had an emergency. Our dog was stung by a bee and although most pets probably would not be affected our dog is only 5lbs and seemed to be having difficulty. We rushed her in and were seen immediately. The office was caring, staff was helpful and we were kept informed all along the way. Communication was great. Did the whole process take a bit of time, of course! They are an emergency facility and we were not the only ones with an emergency. The main thing is that they checked her out immediately and did assessment and we were in the right hands. Such a relief and comfort. Thank you!!!

100% recommend the emergency & specialty part of this hospital. They have done a wonderful job with my epileptic dog. Every time he had a seizure they would call me and let me know what medications they gave him and how he was doing afterwards. I definitely trusted my dog staying the night there with all the staff. They had someone by his side the whole time he’s been here. Their neurologist was wonderful and said my dog looked great after having so many seizures! The Doctor also had great recommendations about what we could do next. I would definitely bring my dog back if something were to happen again!

The individuals here took super good care of my baby when I had to bring her in for a temporary, overnight stay after Pyometra surgery, on top of being 100% understanding and accommodating to the fact that I have a reactive dog (when I’m around at least). They are all super kind and compassionate, but I’d like to give out an extra shoutout to the woman at the front desk of the Emergency Department that gave me a hug when she realized how upset I was after bringing Luna back in 20 minutes after we left, because I was scared that I let her hurt herself already. I didn’t catch her name, but I am beyond grateful for her and the rest of the team that took great care of my sweet girl. & they have been incredibly helpful with answering all of my questions post operation. Would definitely bring my pup back.

If you’re in need of quality , compassionate urgent veterinary care without the added stress of being guilted into every high-priced test known to man, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! When my sweet, curious hound mix Roxy suddenly lost strength in her hind legs, we rushed to Partner Veterinary as we had heard great things…and our expectations were exceeded. Every person with whom we interacted was friendly and kind. Each test/exam was thoroughly explained. When results were available, they too were explained and options provided. The focus was consistently on what would provide the most compassionate resolution for our girl. Not once did I feel like Roxy’s condition was being exaggerated to get us to fork over money for unnecessary procedures. We’re now 3 days into the medications and Roxy has shown definite improvement. Thank you, Dr Wilson and all the staff at the Frederick Partner Veterinary location! We truly appreciate you!
