How to Save Money at Emergency Animal Hospital of Ellicott City
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The Emergency Animal Hospital of Ellicott City has been my go to place when my fur babies need immediate care! They have been nothing but professional, helpful, knowledgeable and extremely caring towards our animals (and us). They helped when we unexpectedly had to put down our senior kitty, which as you can imagine is a call no one wants to make. But they made the experience as good as it could have been and so easy for us. And just recently when our normal vet couldn’t fit us in for an emergency visit for on of our other cats with an eye infection they got us in within a hour of calling. He was in and out with all the necessary tests and we were back home with the medication we needed in a blink of an eye (pun intended lol). The doctors and staff could not be nicer. We were in the best hands and truly do feel like they care about our pets getting the best care possible as much as we do. I can’t say enough good things about this place!! Thank you for everything ♥️🐱

Over the past few years we have had to reach out to the Emergency Animal Hospital of Ellicott City twice. Once was for an after hours injury and the other was for when we had an appointment with our regular vet but the cat's condition warranted emergency immediate care. Both times our pets were seen quickly and their care was professional, thorough, and loving. The injured cat was stabilized and we were given a great recommendation for follow on care. The ill cat was examined and diagnosed quickly and efficiently and received excellent treatment. The staff kept us well informed of procedures, costs, results, and options. I'm addition to being very qualified and professional, all of the staff are extremely friendly and kind. Update: We have now also had experience with care for our ill Guinea pig and he was very well cared for. I am grateful to find that our favorite pet ER also provides for exotic pets!

The staff here is just absolutely wonderful. Having started a new job, I was scrambling to find a vet who could take a look at my cat after hours when she became incredibly lethargic and was having GI issues. My only regret is I didn’t get the names of the two wonderful techs who assisted me through this and broke everything down in a very easy way to understand, so I could thank them properly. One staff member even gave me her own personal iPhone charger so I could charge my phone while I waited for results. They truly care here, and the veterinarian who assisted me was also so kind and knowledgeable. My kitty was so tired she would not even play anymore. After her treatment here, I’m watching her go nuts over her toy bird as we speak :)

Unfortunately I’ve been here several times because we have labs and can say only great things. Last visit my neighbors Dobi had passed and he asked me to drive them to have her cremated. EC Emergency graciously and lovingly handled her with care and respect. Yesterday my middle lab possibly broke her hock and I’ll be going there in a few hours knowing they’ll treat her well. I called to make sure what was a good time. Made me aware they’re going into surgery so it’ll be a few hours. Was put on a call list and I filled the forms out online. Communication goes a long ways. Do your homework before going in to help yourself and the staff. Goes both ways!! Thanks again!!

I took my cat, Daisy, here on a Sunday after I noticed she was urinating blood. The veterinarian team was awesome. They explained everything thoroughly and answered all my questions. I had to leave her for a few hours since she was dehydrated and they could not get a urine sample from her bladder. They gave her IV fluids and were eventually able to get a sample. She was treated for a UTI and I was able to take her home that evening. Excellent care and communication. I highly recommend them for an emergency or when you aren’t able to get in with your regular veterinarian.
