How to Save Money at Spay Now Animal Surgery Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am deeply grateful to the Spay Now Clinic for the exceptional care and affordable services provided when my dog needed spaying and the removal of a large tumor. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate, scheduling a consultation with the surgeon the very next day and the surgery within the same week. They clearly explained all costs upfront, breaking them down in an easy-to-understand way. The check-in and drop-off process was smooth, and the staff’s communication about the surgery results, pick-up, and post-op care was clear and informative. The surgical incision was clean, expertly stitched, and looked very professional. By the second day, the site showed minimal swelling and looked amazing. Even more impressive, my dog was up and walking the very next day! I couldn't be happier with the care my dog received.

I used Spay Now about 11 years ago for my first dog back when it was in Laurel and had a great experience. Just had my new puppy neutered last week and it was again flawless (and bonus, the Columbia location is a little closer to my home now). Yes, they are booked months in advance but it was worth the wait. I called in June and someone called me back in August with a surgery date of early October. Their website and phone recording both state how far out they are booked so adjust your expectations accordingly and you won't be disappointed. The staff were super friendly and thorough both over the phone and in person. Considering how many animals they take in for procedures every day, they were also VERY organized. Everyone was taken in turn and the intake, paperwork, and payment process was quick and easy. They also have Spanish speaking staff if you need it. I would highly recommend Spay Now for your surgery needs. The cost savings over your local vet are unbelievable and they do a great job. My dog had surgery almost a week ago and he is doing great. He hates the 'cone of shame', which is to be expected, but his incision looks very good and he is healing right on schedule. Thank you Spay Now!

Spay Now provides an incredibly essential service at a reasonable cost and with great care for our fur babies. Call early. They'll have to call you back for an appointment as they're extremely busy and understandably so. I called soon after I adopted my pup and they returned my call to schedule his neuter appt weeks sooner than I had anticipated due to their call volume. Check in was easy and everything was explained very well. We finished check in by 9. He was out of surgery and I was updated by 10:30 and I was able to pick him up by 11:30, with excellent pain medication and thorough instructions. Everyone at Spay Now from start to finish was kind, knowledgeable, safe, and caring. The fact that I was charged less than half of what this process would have cost at my personal vet or PetSmart was the icing on the cake.

My cat is 48 hours after her surgery and she feels great!! Her recovery has been faster than I expected, she has not felt uncomfortable at any time, only the first few hours, including that first night, but I think it was because she was a little sore. The next day she spent most of the day resting and sleeping comfortably. On her second day, after 48 hours, she wants to do normal things in her day to day life. Thank you Spay Now, I think you did an incredible job, the customer service is very good, I think you are very professional.

Sometimes it can be a hard time to get someone on the phone, and you can either leave a message or keep calling. But the ladies in the front desk are super friendly. Everything went well with Milo’s neutering surgery. Dr. Owens was super responsive through email when I had questions or concerns on Milo. And I sent her picture updates on Milo she let me know steps of what to do to make sure he healed properly.
