How to Save Money at Pet+E.R.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We took our family's golden retriever there for sudden paralyzation of her back end. We were there for a long time as they were busy, but everyone went out of their way to be helpful in making her comfortable & making sure we knew our options. They gave us a blanket for her while we were waiting, & tried very hard to express her bladder so she wasn't uncomfortable. Thank you

Had to admit my cat after he ingested a lily, every vet I spoke to was very kind and knowledgeable and understanding. Every tech, nurse, receptionist was so kind to me and my pet. I was scared leaving him alone but took comfort in knowing how much the staff clearly cared for every animal coming through. facility was also perfectly clean and organized, even in the animal holding area where they kept my cat. Vet stayed in constant contact with me throughout the entire ordeal with updates and answering any questions I had which really helped put me at ease. The facility also made it very clear that I was welcome to see my cat while he was in hospital whenever I could, I always felt welcome. Highly highly recommend. Although I hope I never have to come back! God forbid I do this place is my first choice.

The Pet+ER facility was impeccably clean, and both the staff and veterinary technicians/nurses were remarkably friendly, kind, and supportive. Their genuine care for pets was evident, and I never felt like just a customer. However, there's room for improvement in reducing the wait time to see a veterinarian. Whether this is due to staffing shortages or other factors is unclear. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly recommend their services.

I brought my dog here after being referred by another vet to get her in. She spent 24 hours at this vet and they charged me $7,000. We took her home the next day waiting for results to come back, which took an entire week. Only to have them call me and tell me everything was fine. She still is not doing well. I called 3x asking to be speak to the one vet that was treating her because I had questions. I still have not received a call back. For 7 thousand dollars this is how they treat people. The only response I received from a tech was that I could bring her back in… with what money. I’m completely drained with no answers and my dog still is not doing well. This is absolutely horrible to treat people this way. I have done everything to try and help my dog to be left with nothing. And the fact that I can’t even get a call back to have some questions answered is just sad. How can you treat people that only want to help their animals this way.

My family and I are so grateful for this place. They saved our dog! Our dog was bit in the face and lost his left eye, but my husband called while he was on the way with our dog and they were all ready and took our dog back as soon as they got there and they took such great care of him. His eye is healing so well after the surgery they treated him so well and were wonderful about letting us know what was going on at all times. We are just so grateful for this place really and truly, our dog is like our second child and they took such great care of my baby. I can’t recommend this place enough!! I wanted to genuinely say thank you to all the staff each and every one and the vets, just everybody. We are beyond grateful from the bottom of our hearts.
