How to Save Money at Homeward Bound Veterinary Services
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our dog needed urgent care today, and Homeward Bound was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we arrived, the staff showed incredible compassion, expertise, and efficiency, putting both our dog and our family at ease during a stressful time. The team handled everything with such care, making sure our dog was comfortable and receiving the best treatment possible. We’ve come to Homeward Bound for both routine and emergency visits, and each time they exceed our expectations. Their dedication to their patients and their families is truly remarkable. We are so grateful for the entire team and the peace of mind they provided us tonight. Without them, we could of lost a piece of our family. I highly recommend Homeward Bound to anyone seeking top-notch, compassionate care for their pets. Thank you to everyone at the clinic, our family truly appreciates everything you’ve done!

I just can’t say enough good things about my recent experience at Homeward Bound. My dog Boomer gave us quite a scare. He was not eating or drinking and overall very weak. They got us in within a few hours and were very patient with this emotional dog mama. They answered all of my questions and explained everything in detail. They took wonderful care of my boy and worked with me to keep his treatment affordable. I am so grateful and so is Boomer, he seems to be feeling much better already. I can’t thank you enough.

We are relatively new patients at Homeward Bound but have had nothing but positive experiences using both their preventative and urgent care appointments. The staff has always been helpful and professional over the phone and in-person. Shortly after we adopted our cats, they had some tummy issues, and we utilized Homeward Bound’s same-day urgent care. This is a great alternative to the ER when your pet does not need overnight care. Our cats have since been seen at Homeward Bound for their vaccines and preventative care appointments. Although we haven’t had to use it, I also like that Homeward Bound has some diagnostic equipment in-house. Again, this may save a trip to the ER or specialty vet. Finally, the Homeward Bound staff spends time offering veterinary services to rescue pets in need, which is commendable. Our rescue cats were cared for by Homeward Bound before we adopted them, and we are happy to continue their care with Dr. Vance, Dr. Sorum and the rest of the fantastic staff at Homeward Bound! 🩷 Dottie & Kit

On Thursday 11/07, my dog Milo had X-rays taken at a different practice that showed a possible foreign body in his GI tract. The vet where I had these taken urged me to find somewhere to perform surgery as soon as possible, which lead me to Homeward Bound. I called 6 other veterinary offices, before a receptionist recommended that I call them. I had surgery scheduled for Milo within 5 minutes of that phone call. We had never been to their vet practice before, and they squeezed us in like we had been coming there for years. Unfortunately, when Dr. Vance performed the surgery, she found that Milo had a large tumor that was inoperable and I had to make the difficult decision to protect him from experiencing anymore pain, as he had been sick for going on 2 months at this point. The staff there did an excellent job communicating with me, considering the shock of the situation and my subsequent emotions. They were truly some of the most empathetic and genuinely caring people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you to Stephanie, who I spoke to when I dropped Milo off, who assured me that she would be with him through every step of the process. I couldn’t be there when he passed, but remembering her words gave me peace knowing he was with someone who cared. Thank you to Dr. Vance, for the work that she did and for taking time out of her day to email me about her findings. I also wanted to thank the 2 techs (I apologize if that isn’t their position) that came into the room while I was saying my goodbyes, there was a gentleman with long hair that was so soft spoken and sweet that helped with with the paperwork needed for cremation and other keepsakes, and then a girl with dark hair that made sure I got all the time that I needed to say goodbye, and all the keepsakes so I could remember my boy forever. I greatly appreciate each of you. I highly recommend this practice, if you’re here reading reviews to see if this is the right place for your pet, I want to assure you that it is. The cost was fair considering the urgency and the fact that we weren’t patients there, especially when some of the quotes I got prior were *thousands* of dollars more than Homeward Bound.

I have been going to homeward bound for over 2 years now. Ever since Dr. Vance took a poor boy from the streets ( my Mario) with 2 collars imbedded in his neck so deep they had to be surgically removed all the way around his neck. He became my foster and then my soul cat. Dr. Sorum gently helped me with the passing of my Lucy who was 17. Her and the staff couldn’t have been more kind and considerate. Since Mario I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know some of the folks at HB both as a customer and working along side of them during spay and neuter clinics where the vets and staff donate their time and expertise to help control the street cat population. I will always support a business that gives back to the community and offers top notch healthcare for my cat family. Thank you for all you do. Bonnie Norkitis
